Now there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them - bringing swift destruction on themselves. Many will follow in their depravity, and because of them the way of truth will be defamed. In their greed, these false teachers will exploit you with deceptive words. Although the word "Catholic" means comprehensive, universal or all-embracing, it also refers to the Catholic Church that, under the leadership of the pope, sees itself as the only true church. Although there have been widespread efforts at reconciliation between Catholics and Protestants the several CRUCIAL differences between what the Bible teaches and what the Catholic Church teaches are irreconcilable.
In fact, the Canons and Decrees of the Council of Trent, that rejected every doctrine of the Reformation and hurled 125 anathemas (curses or denunciations) against every belief held by Bible believing Christians, remains the standard authoritative statement of Catholicism.
