The Teen Age Idols.. What Are They Really About?

The Backstreet Boys
Britney Spears
What the Fans Say
What The Bible Says

In just the last two years – the Backstreet Boys, N’Sync and Britney have sold over 30 million albums! Over half a billion (that’s Billion with a "B") in "idolized" merchandize – from bedspreads to hats! In just two years! No wonder an Elektra Records executive remarked, "This teen stuff isn't just driving the music business, it is the music business." [1]

"The main thing is to get the kids. . . nail you when you’re young and brainwash you, then they’ve got you for the rest of your life." George Harrison, Beatles, [2]

The average age of a young person to attend a Backstreet Boy’s "sexual awakening" concert – 12 years old!  [3]

One mother comments in Express Writer:, "Their [Backstreet Boys] focus is on good morals. . ." [4]

So how accurate is their squeaky-clean ‘boy-next-door’ image, considering how young and impressionable their fans are? Take a look at some of their lyrics.

"Lay Down Beside Me":

    I can't deny it
    The way your body swings
As I watched you from behind
    How could I fly in?
Baby let me be the one to hold you
To give you the things I know you need . ..

    If you lay down
    Lay down beside me
You can get all inside me
And I can get all inside you too
If you lay down beside me
You can wake up beside me forever. . .

I give you what you need
Just come to me and get it
    Baby, you won't regret it
    No, no, no, no, baby
Baby move a little closer, yes
I wanna feel your body next to mine
And before this night is over. You will just know what I need. . .

"Boys Will Be Boys":

    We try to get closer,
And you always push me away.
You tell me it's much too soon, but I just can't help it.
I always gotta make your play.

Whoa, whoa. Oh oh. Whoa, whoa. Oh.
Boys will be boys. . .

All my senses go right into over drive.
All my defenses are never going to hold,
I'm always going to lose control.
I hear you singing that you think that we should wait.
If I can't hold on any more.
    My body's calling for you
    So please don't hesitate. No.
    Oooh Boys will be boys

You know I gotta do what I gotta do baby

I Need You Tonight"

    I need you tonight
    I need you right now
And I know, deep within my heart
It doesn't matter if it's wrong or right

Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)" – ‘Am I sexual’?

    Rock your body. . .
    Backstreet's back alright . . .

    Am I original?
    Am I the only one?
    Am I sexual?
    Am I everything you need?
You better rock your body now . .

If You Want It To Be Good (Get Yourself A Bad Boy)"

If you want it to be good girl
    Get yourself a bad boy
Bad boy, bad boy, bad boy
Yeah, I like this, ha ha
Oh yes, ooh how, I like this
If you want it to be wild
Gotta know your suit of dial baby
    That's me
If you really like it hot
Get someone who hits the spot honey

If you want it to be good girl
    Get yourself a bad boy
    If you like it innovated
Better get someone creative honey, yes . . .

    Now listen,
    There's a thing
    And mama shouldn't know
    There's a thing
    I really wanna show you. . .
If you really want it good

I'm your bad boy, I'm your bad boy.

The Response to songs like these..
"When Nick Carter — the youngest, blondest, and most yelp-inducing Boy — blurts out the ludicrous line ‘Am I sexual?’ hordes of 8- to 15-year-old girls clutch their throwaway cameras and scream their braces off. Another night, another 10,000 sexual awakenings. [5]

And if you don’t believe young teenage girls respond to the Backstreet Boys "sexual awakenings" — according to Spin Magazine, when the "boys" sung the line "Am I sexual?" during their Orlando concert, ". . . the girls roar and pound the floorboards so violently two roadies rush to secure the speakers."  [6]that we want
We're gettin nasty nasty, we're getting freaky dreaky
Baby baby we can do more than just talk. . .

I love the things you do for me so late at night
    So turn me on yeah
It's like I'm right there next to you yeah. . .

    Can we get connected
I need some love and affection baby. . .
If you're in the mood and on the phone,. . .

I can't wait to see you touch your body girl

We're gettin nasty nasty, we're getting freaky dreaky
Baby baby we can do more than just talk. . .

That’s all we need… "teen idols" encouraging young people to engage in sexual "phone" or "cybersex"!

When asked by TV Guide about "Digital Get Down's" obvious sexual content, Justin Timberlake says with a grin, "I think it's quite safe sex if you ask me,"   [8]

"Bringin' Da Noise"

    “Lose your mind
Let your body take control. . .
    Just shake it girl
    And enjoy the ride
    Do what you feel inside

"I Just Wanna Be With You"

I just wanna be with you, girl that's all I wanna do”

Girl you’re turning me on, your such a fine lady,
And sugar more and more, your driving me crazy
Because you're just what I want, and I'm just what you need,
    Gonna make you my baby;
Sweet darling all I can see, is you and me.
I wanna drown in your love, lead me to your water
    Let it flow, just let it flow baby;
My love is insane, pleasure and pain,
    It's part of life, so live it up baby;
If you're scared of love, don't be afraid,
Because girl I'm scared to, but I gotta have you
Gonna love you day and night, yes I'll treat you right!

"You Got It"

You got it - I want it
    I'll do whatever it takes
You got it - I need it
Your love is what makes my heart break
Let me tell you how I feel
I need your lovin', girl give it to me
Never met a girl like you
I know you'll like the crazy things we'll do

"I’m Crazy for You"

I wanna, I wanna rock with you
I'm gonna, I'm gonna make it true
I wanna, I wanna rock with you
    I'm crazy for you.

"Space Cowboy" (in an obvious reference to Biblical prophecy)

    Here it comes, millennium
    And everybodys' talking' 'bout Jerusalem
Is this the beginning or beginning of the end
Well, I've got other thoughts my friend

We don't need all these prophecies
    Tellin' us what's a sign, what's a sign
'Cause paranoia ain't the way to live your life from day to day
So leave your doubts and your fears behind

If you wanna fly, come and take a ride Take a space ride with the cowboy, baby

As N’Sync member, Justin Timberlake was recording the song, "That’s When I’ll Stop Loving You", producer Guy Roche says, "I see panties flying!". [9] referring to pre-teens and teens, who remove and throw their bras and panties to the performers during their rock concerts.

"They are responding to boys who are offering themselves as sexually desirable and visually pleasurable objects of consumption. . ." [10].

Ultra-liberal Rolling Stone magazine frighteningly describes 'N Sync's music as "darker stuff, like teen horror movies and grunge" and ". . .brimming with the pent-up tension of teenhood: the urgency of unfulfilled, misunderstood desires, burbling hormones and unbearable, overwhelming feelings" [11] {Top Of Page}

"A recent Rolling Stone cover featured a pedophile's dream photo spread: suggestive bedroom pics of 17-year-old pop sensation Britney Spears ("Hit Me Baby, One More Time") posing in underwear and high heels with her little girl dolls on the shelf behind her. Another equally exploitative shot of the former Mouseketeer shows her in short shorts with the word "Baby" written in rhinestones on her butt cheeks. In this one she is holding the handlebars of a little pink and white girl's banana seat bike. As if she were a "finger-lickin' good" menu item at KFC, the article begins with a description of Spears' "honeyed thighs" and quickly works its way up to "her ample breasts pushing against her T-shirt." [12]

"There aren't very many men on campus who haven't drooled over the image of Britney Spears on MTV strutting and flipping around in her little Catholic school girl's uniform with her blouse open to show her bra; shirt tied beneath her breasts revealing her tight tummy and navel; a skirt so farcically short that it makes a mockery of private, religious education."  [13].

The suggestive Britney Spears photo spread in the latest Rolling Stone magazine had plenty of eyeballs bulging and tongues wagging at the 17-year-old pop phenom's physique, adding sex appeal to Spears' clean-and-innocent image. . .  Nevertheless, Spears seems to be untouchable by scandal. ‘I think it's fine and it's tasteful,’ she told MTV in reference to the controversial Rolling Stone spread."  [14]

"On ‘The American Music Awards’ Monday night, the 18-year-old pop star [Britney Spears] wore an unbelievable stare-at-me jumper, for which the wide neckline plunged past her navel. (Someone described it as a backless dress worn backwards; it was backless, by the way, and don't ask me to explain how she kept it secured.) I'm no prude, but that isn't the kind of outfit someone who has a big influence on young people should be wearing on prime-time TV. This kind of racy/ sexy/trashy ensemble is what music followers might expect from Carmen Electra, Pamela Anderson Lee or Mariah Carey. But Britney? No way." [15]

"Britney Spears, who pretty much stripped herself of any goody two-shoes image at the MTV Music Video Awards show, completes the job in October's Elle by giving her approval to women who sleep with men outside of love, and declaring Sex and the City her favorite show. [16]

She gyrated gamely in a transparent body stocking that made her look like she wasn't wearing anything at all - save for a handful of sequins. [17]

"Britney Spears provided some medieval thrills by hanging, drawing, and then quartering the Rolling Stones' "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" in a transparent body stocking. For a few brief moments, it was as if child pornography had gone over-ground."  [18]

"Spears sent the crowd's hormones into a frenzy by tearing off her black suit to reveal a spangled, flesh-toned outfit, and then proceeded to kick into an adrenaline-pumping performance of "Oops!... I Did It Again" that seemed to suggest that perhaps she really was "not that innocent" anymore." [19]

So is Ms Spears being used by her directors and producers to sell her music?

"Suggestions that Spears's handlers at Jive Records are exploiting her are, claims her co-manager Larry Rudolph, way off base. 'The record company wanted to keep things squeaky-clean, and she went along with it at first,' he says. 'But it quickly became clear that it wasn't natural for her. She doesn't want anyone to put a blanket around her and hide her. She's totally in control of what's going on.'" [20]

A quote from a recent Elle Magazine

". . . and while she does say her prayers at night, she also freely employs the f-word and other colorful slang. In fact, her, topics of conversation can be so out-of-keeping with her Colgate smile that Spears tends to lower her voice into a confessional whisper. Take her somewhat surprising confidence that she's addicted to the show Sex and the City, which seems like the last thing she would identify with. 'Sarah Parker I'm her,' Spears says. 'And all the things they talk about are so true. Like one show was talking about how [confessional whisper] guys can have sex without love, so women can do it too? [She raises her voice] And I have girlfriends who do that. But I [lowers voice] I just really have to be into someone. [Raises voice] If not, what's the purpose. [21]

In Elle magazine, Britney names Madonna as one of her idols, and she admits Madonna's career is the one she'd most like to emulate. [22]

Incidently Porno director Gregory Dark (Sex Freaks, Flesh, Psychosexuals) directed Britney's video "From the Bottom of My Broken Heart"?

Soda Pop"

Open that soda pop, watch it fiz and pop
The clock is tickin and we can't stop . . .
We might start riding to the music tonight
A clever way to get by, oh
The pops keep flowin' like its fire and ice . . .
See, where ya ba-do for a superlative self oh yeah
A wicked time to the end, oh yeah, so . . .
So turn the tables baby, let's go over the top

Girls we need him like we've never before (before, before, before)
And lovin it till we drop (we drop, ah, we drop yeah)
We'll flex tonight until they break down the door. . .
I bet you we can pop like we've never popped it before
Why we keep comin back for more and more for sure
It's cool Britney when we get down on the floor yeah
And we go on and on until the break of dawn.

"pop" is street slang for fornication. [23] {Top Of Page}

What The Fans Say:
In Charleston, West Virginia, fans camped outside in 4 degrees for just a chance to buy concerts to a Britney Spears concert!  [24]

Tush: And you're obsessed with Britney?
Unidentified Fan: I'm obsessed. I'd do anything for her. . . I live for Britney Spears, you don't understand. I live for Britney Spears. I live for her. . . Like my life wouldn't be complete without her. [25]

The following are excerpts from a September 14, 1998 People Magazine article called Where the Boys Are…

"The countdown to the Backstreet Boys' Las Vegas concert has begun, and the pop quintet's fans are having another manic attack at the MGM Grand Hotel. It has been an hour since their beloved Boys — Howie Dorough, A.J. McLean, Nick Carter and cousins Kevin Richardson and Brian Littrell — dashed through an alley entrance to shower and change before the show at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, but the hundreds of hysterical pubescent girls refuse to go away. "I love Nick!" shouts one. "For Nick, I'll die. If God says, `Die and let Nick live,' I'll do that...

Actually, the Boys' popularity can be downright dangerous. During an Aug. 18 show in Edmonton, Alta., more than 50 fans were treated by paramedics after a horde of people surged toward the stage. Amazingly, many injured fans came back for more. "I was in tears because I was happy," says Heather Tasko, 13, who escaped with bruised ribs. "I was lucky to even get close to the stage. It was the best day of my life." [26]

A photographer who was caught in the middle of the "stage surge" in Edmonton described the tweens as "The girls were like piranhas in a feeding frenzy".

"Teens weren't the only ones caught in the crush. From his swollen knee, you'd think Sun photographer Perry Mah had just returned from a war in Europe or the Middle East. He was stuck between the stage and the crowd. ‘I was scared,’ said the shooter.

The girls were like piranhas in a feeding frenzy. These kids didn't care about anything but getting to the front of the stage. It was a stampede., [27]

"I need a bigger room to put up all my posters. I've run out of space,'' laments Heather Tasko, 13, of her bedroom walls crammed with 1,000 posters and pictures. "If you ask any of my friends they'd say I'm very obsessed with them."

"It was awesome. I cried so hard,'' recalls the besotted fan who waited more than eight hours for the fleeting encounter where she presented Nick with a red rose and necklace. "He sort of gave me a strange look. On the tag I wrote, 'From your No. 1 fan. I love you.' He looked up and said, `I love you, too.' The security guard had to hold me because I was shaking. I was so overwhelmed,'' says Falkner, who also sports a massive collection of Backstreet Boys posters and goods

"If I was dying tomorrow, the last thing I would want is to meet them again. That would be my last wish,'' [28]

Kevin of the Boys describes how far some girls go just to get a look a the Backstreet Boys:

"Girls sneaking on our bus somehow while we're loading luggage. We'll find them in the bathroom. Girls camping outside the hotels. Girls climbing over barbed-wire fences to get to us. One girl got caught up in a fence and hung there by her pants." (Kevin of the Boys , Toronto Sun, Thursday, March 27, 1997)

"Many of the young, hysterical fans had waited in sub-zero temperatures since 4 a.m. [waiting outside in below zero cold for over 15 hours] yesterday to see their heroes during a 90-minute concert broadcast from coast to coast. Eight people - most of them injured in the swaying crowd, including one person with an injured leg - were transported to downtown hospitals and another eight were treated on site, said an ambulance spokesman. . .

    Stephanie Aguar, 14, of Toronto, braved the cold for hours before the 7:30 p.m. concert on the MuchMusic stage because "we love them. We just want a glimpse, just to touch one of them." "I've been here since four this morning. I just love Howie," said Gulshan Vazir, 13." [29] {Top Of Page}

The Bible Says:

Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. 1 Corinthians 6:18

Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. Galatians 6:7-8.

Job chapter 20:11 carries a stern warning against the philosophy of  "they’re just kids. . . they’ll grow out if it. . . it’s just adolescent rebellion". "His bones are full of the sin of his youth, which shall lie down with him in the dust." Job 20:11.

"Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart. 2 Timothy 2:22.

    For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adulteress will hunt for the precious life. Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned? Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned? Proverbs 6:26-27.  {Top Of Page}
