[Hebrews 10:26,27] (Heb 10:26-31 NKJV) "For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, {27} but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries. {28} Anyone who has rejected Moses' law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. {29} Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace? {30} For we know Him who said, "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay," says the Lord. And again, "The LORD will judge His people." {31} It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God." One of the most conclusive set of scriptures denying and exposing as a terrible heresy the "once saved, always saved" doctrine is Hebrews 10:26-31. The writer of Hebrews is making a comparison here to offenses committed under the Mosaic law, not to the legalities, but the punishment. People who rejected Moses' law died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. The 29th verse is clearly saying that a blood-washed Christian who abuses God's grace will receive the worse punishment. Jesus taught the same thing in (Luke 12:45-47 NKJV) " "But if that servant says in his heart, 'My master is delaying his coming,' and begins to beat the male and female servants, and to eat and drink and be drunk, {46} "the master of that servant will come on a day when he is not looking for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in two and appoint him his portion with the unbelievers. {47} "And that servant who knew his master's will, and did not prepare himself or do according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes."
Notice verse 46, "appoint him his portion with the unbelievers." This is obviously a Christian who has abused the grace of God. He also taught the same principle in Matthew concerning people who are unprepared at His coming. (Mat 24:48-51 NKJV) ""But if that evil servant says in his heart, 'My master is delaying his coming,' {49} "and begins to beat his fellow servants, and to eat and drink with the drunkards, {50} "the master of that servant will come on a day when he is not looking for him and at an hour that he is not aware of, {51} "and will cut him in two and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth." In this passage the Christian who abuses grace is judged and punished as a hypocrite. How did God view those who committed wanton sin, abused the blood of animal sacrifices, and insulted the Spirit of mercy? A glimpse into the mind of God toward individuals disloyal to the blood covenant can be had by reading the following passage: (Isa 1:10-20 NKJV) "Hear the word of the LORD, You rulers of Sodom; Give ear to the law of our God, You people of Gomorrah: {11} "To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices to Me?" Says the LORD. "I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams And the fat of fed cattle. I do not delight in the blood of bulls, Or of lambs or goats. {12} "When you come to appear before Me, Who has required this from your hand, To trample My courts? {13} Bring no more futile sacrifices; Incense is an abomination to Me. The New Moons, the Sabbaths, and the calling of assemblies; I cannot endure iniquity and the sacred meeting. {14} Your New Moons and your appointed feasts My soul hates; They are a trouble to Me, I am weary of bearing them. {15} When you spread out your hands, I will hide My eyes from you; Even though you make many prayers, I will not hear. Your hands are full of blood. {16} "Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; Put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes. Cease to do evil, {17} Learn to do good; Seek justice, Rebuke the oppressor; Defend the fatherless, Plead for the widow. {18} "Come now, and let us reason together," Says the LORD, "Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool. {19} If you are willing and obedient, You shall eat the good of the land; {20} But if you refuse and rebel, You shall be devoured by the sword"; For the mouth of the LORD has spoken."
Malachi also revealed the same anger of God toward those who would abuse the covenant relationship. (Mal 1:6-14 NKJV) ""A son honors his father, And a servant his master. If then I am the Father, Where is My honor? And if I am a Master, Where is My reverence? Says the LORD of hosts To you priests who despise My name. Yet you say, 'In what way have we despised Your name?' {7} "You offer defiled food on My altar. But say, 'In what way have we defiled You?' By saying, 'The table of the LORD is contemptible.' {8} And when you offer the blind as a sacrifice, Is it not evil? And when you offer the lame and sick, Is it not evil? Offer it then to your governor! Would he be pleased with you? Would he accept you favorably?" Says the LORD of hosts. {9} "But now entreat God's favor, That He may be gracious to us. While this is being done by your hands, Will He accept you favorably?" Says the LORD of hosts. {10} "Who is there even among you who would shut the doors, So that you would not kindle fire on My altar in vain? I have no pleasure in you," Says the LORD of hosts, "Nor will I accept an offering from your hands. {11} For from the rising of the sun, even to its going down, My name shall be great among the Gentiles; In every place incense shall be offered to My name, And a pure offering; For My name shall be great among the nations," Says the LORD of hosts. {12} "But you profane it, In that you say, 'The table of the LORD is defiled; And its fruit, its food, is contemptible.' {13} You also say, 'Oh, what a weariness!' And you sneer at it," Says the LORD of hosts. "And you bring the stolen, the lame, and the sick; Thus you bring an offering! Should I accept this from your hand?" Says the LORD. {14} "But cursed be the deceiver Who has in his flock a male, And takes a vow, But sacrifices to the Lord what is blemished; For I am a great King," Says the LORD of hosts, "And My name is to be feared among the nations."
and then look at the next chapter: 2:2 If you will not hear, And if you will not take it to heart, To give glory to My name," Says the LORD of hosts, "I will send a curse upon you, And I will curse your blessings. Yes, I have cursed them already, Because you do not take it to heart. 3 "Behold, I will rebuke your descendants And spread refuse on your faces, The refuse of your solemn feasts; And one will take you away with it.
He is the Lord God and He does not change! How do OSAS proponents get around the above Scriptures and the abundance of other Scripture that declare their doctrine as false? The answer that they take the Scriptures out of context and misinterpret them to fit their opinions, thus rendering God's word as a lie. There are untold millions in hell today and more arriving each day because of OSAS. These poor doomed masses saw no need to quit sinning, nor give up any of the ways of flesh, simply because one day they professed Christ as their Savior. Some are not saved at all. They merely joined a church that taught OSAS and believed that was all there was to salvation. I believe that no honest, committed, Christian who knows the truth could ever sit idly by while a stream of souls filled hell because of a false doctrine they had an opportunity to challenge. [Also See Is The Sinner’s Prayer Effective?] I want to reveal to you some of the scriptures that expose the OSAS doctrine as a doctrine of devils and a complete fabrication of lies. First I want to tell you my personal experience of how an individual can actually walk completely away from God and still believe they are saved and on their way to heaven. Not only did I leave the church, I abandoned God and went out into deep sin, yet all the time I thought I was still heaven bound. While in a drug induced, drunken stupor, I would say the Lord's prayer every night before I went to sleep. I believed that saying the Lord's prayer covered my sins and I would be accepted into heaven if I died in my sleep. However, one day I realized that I was in fact headed for hell if I did not change my life. I go into more detail about my past and my salvation experience in my testimony. When God saved me, I had a complete change inside and out. There was no doubt in my mind that if I had died before this change I would have went straight to hell. Because OSAS almost sent me to hell and I intend to challenge it and do everything in my power to expose it for the dangerous deception that it is so that others may recover their souls from the snare of the devil. First, lets look at the self-defeating nature of OSAS. If one truly believes OSAS, there is very little motivation to give up sin at all or to progress in Christian maturity. I mean, why give up sinning when you can enjoy the pleasures of sin on earth and the bliss of heaven when the ways of sin cash you in? I've seen numerous posters placing Elvis Presley in heaven and many preachers have preached that he did enter heaven. Why did they do this? Because they believed Elvis was "saved" at an early age. The other day I saw a poster of a rapper who lived a despicable lifestyle, who rapped some of the most vile lyrics of evil and rebellion in his music(?). This man who did nothing in life but live out the wanton desires of the flesh was depicted in the poster in an ethereal pose, as if he had reached sainthood. His death was tragic. He was gunned down and died in a way similar to the violent scenes he depicted in his demonic lyrics. The caption read, "Only God can judge me now." Of course, yet contrary to what the poster implied, God no doubt cast this man into hell. One has to wonder if the designers of this poster also believed OSAS since it fits the pattern of those so deceived. I want people to see OSAS is wrong in this life so that they will have the opportunity to change because hell is the last place one should discover their doctrine was wrong. Let me begin by saying it is preposterous to believe that God is so naive as to give us a doctrine that allow people to serve His enemy, Satan, without any consequences for their rebellion. In fact, OSAS, if it is a true doctrine, is a strategic blunder by God who has never even hinted at making a mistake before. It allows and promotes flagrant hypocrisy. Not only that but one of the greatest hindrances to witnessing to the lost is the fact sinners believe most Christians are hypocrites, thus Christianity itself is brought into disrepute. Since the reason for this perception of the Church by sinners is due in great part to OSAS, I cannot imagine God making it a part of the salvation message, allowing His children to promote the kingdom of darkness while at the same time claiming to serve Him, turning His kingdom into a laughing stock and open sport for late night talk shows and comedians. It is inconceivable that He would do such a thing considering what He said to those who practiced hypocrisy under the law. (Lev 19:12 NKJV) "'And you shall not swear by My name falsely, nor shall you profane the name of your God: I am the LORD." (Jer 18:15-16 NKJV) ""Because My people have forgotten Me, They have burned incense to worthless idols. And they have caused themselves to stumble in their ways, From the ancient paths, To walk in pathways and not on a highway, {16} To make their land desolate and a perpetual hissing; Everyone who passes by it will be astonished And shake his head." (Ezek 16:35-43 NKJV) "'Now then, O harlot, hear the word of the LORD! {36} 'Thus says the Lord GOD: "Because your filthiness was poured out and your nakedness uncovered in your harlotry with your lovers, and with all your abominable idols, and because of the blood of your children which you gave to them, {37} "surely, therefore, I will gather all your lovers with whom you took pleasure, all those you loved, and all those you hated; I will gather them from all around against you and will uncover your nakedness to them, that they may see all your nakedness. {38} "And I will judge you as women who break wedlock or shed blood are judged; I will bring blood upon you in fury and jealousy. {39} "I will also give you into their hand, and they shall throw down your shrines and break down your high places. They shall also strip you of your clothes, take your beautiful jewelry, and leave you naked and bare. {40} "They shall also bring up an assembly against you, and they shall stone you with stones and thrust you through with their swords. {41} "They shall burn your houses with fire, and execute judgments on you in the sight of many women; and I will make you cease playing the harlot, and you shall no longer hire lovers. {42} "So I will lay to rest My fury toward you, and My jealousy shall depart from you. I will be quiet, and be angry no more. {43} "Because you did not remember the days of your youth, but agitated Me with all these things, surely I will also recompense your deeds on your own head," says the Lord GOD. "And you shall not commit lewdness in addition to all your abominations."
People might read these verses and declare, "Well, I'm not under the law, I'm under grace." Good for them, but they need to realize that God still has laws. There could never be a judgment throne unless there were laws to break, law breakers, and a law to judge by. We must realize that the Mosaic law was done away with, but by fulfillment rather than God outright rejecting it. God does not change and still hates sin. He didn't reject the law and in fact could never do so because the law signified the nature of His holiness by revealing His wrath against sin. Instead, Jesus fulfilled the law of Moses and brought in the era of grace, yet He did not abolish the law of God that stems from His holiness. There are still plenty of "you shall not's" in the New Testament. The way we get out from under the law is to walk in the Spirit. This means we accept the law written in our minds by the indwelling of the Divine Nature. The Spirit of God teaches us not to sin. People who commit wanton sin are under the law because they refuse to walk in the Spirit. (Gal 5:16-18 NKJV) "I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. {17} For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. {18} But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law."
Acceptance of God's grace means you accept God's law written in your mind. The law that used to be on the outside, Jesus causes to come on the inside when we are saved. When we are saved the Holy Spirit comes in. This is God on the inside, the same Divine Nature that sent the Mosaic law that Jesus fulfilled. Confirmation of this is found in Hebrews. (Heb 8:10-12 NKJV) ""For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. {11} "None of them shall teach his neighbor, and none his brother, saying, 'Know the LORD,' for all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them. {12} "For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.""
If the Holy Spirit is not in us, we are not saved, we do not belong to God. (2 Cor 13:5 NKJV) "Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?; unless indeed you are disqualified." (Rom 8:9 NKJV) "But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His."
The Holy Spirit cohabits with our spirit in our body. (2 Cor 4:7 NKJV) "But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us."
He did not come to relax, hang about or keep a low profile until Jesus comes or we depart by the way of death. I can't imagine anyone who understands the nature of God believing that they have received the Holy Spirit into them and He is clinging to a part of their house (body) like a bad guest that won't go away. He came to bring fire in us and to exude light from us that exposes the darkness. Since He comes in as God, one cannot be saved who will not humble themselves before God and repent. At that point, God, by His Holy Spirit, come inside of us. His entrance is not a cue to rise up and re-enthrone self while forcing Him into lifelong silence and inactivity. The purpose of the Holy Spirit is to teach our freshly cleansed nature about the nature of God. This He does by teaching us the Word (1 John 2:27), by teaching us all things (John 14:26), leading us into all truth (John 16:13), convicting us of sin (John 16:8), and chastising us for disobedience (Hebrews 12:5-11). All this is to help us to come into the fullness of Christ through His gifts to the Church. Anyone who believes they have unconditional, eternal, salvation misunderstands the biblical explanation of the Holy Spirit's purpose in us and has swerved off the course of Divine Order. They have lost the divine continuum of God's plan and interspersed thoughts of their own into His salvation plan. Our response to the Holy Spirit in us is godliness (Greek: eusibia), which is a godly lifestyle. Godliness in form without power is the nature of an apostate. OSAS is fueling the Great Apostasy to a large degree since those who believe this doctrine practice godliness in form without the power. As such they contradict the Scripture's in Romans 8: (Rom 8:1-4 NKJV) "There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. {2} For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. {3} For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, {4} that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit."
Having absorbed that portion of scripture, one must then move on to the rest of the thought train. (Rom 8:5-10 NKJV) "For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. {6} For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. {7} Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. {8} So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God. {9} But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. {10} And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness."
I realize the OSAS proponents would counter my words by taking scriptures out of context as they do when they point to Paul's word's in Roman's 7 as proof of OSAS. They declare Paul sinned with his body and had no control over it, yet his spirit did not sin because of grace. Let's take a look at Romans 7 and while we're at it, lets put it in context by reviewing chapters 6 and 8. A common mistake when studying the word of God is to allow the Puritans chapter and verse marking to box in a scripture. I have listen to and read teaching on Romans 7 by OSAS proponents that do this very thing. I once talked to a young man who gave up Christianity to live a licentious life. He pointed to Romans 7 and the teaching he received from OSAS proponents as justification for his actions. [Also See Never Read a Bible Verse] Fist let me state that it is completely impossible to teach Romans 7 as a stands alone chapter. Romans 7 is in the middle of an entire discourse on law and grace. You can readily see this by reading the surrounding chapters. However, OSAS proponents interpret Paul's words in the later part of the seventh chapter to indicate that he was a sinner who frequently committed sin because he couldn't help himself. To make Paul out an uncontrollable sinner, yet saved by grace, is to deny that the rest of what Paul wrote in Romans 6 and 8. The entire chapter of Romans 6 is devoted to debunking any notion that Paul's teaching about grace is an open invitation to use grace as a license for sin. How could Romans 7 be a chapter describing Paul's as an uncontrollable sinner saved by grace since he convincingly denounced such a condition in the previous chapter? Such a preposterous idea is inconsistent with his words elsewhere in the bible. Consider the following scriptures: (1 Cor 9:24-27 NKJV) "Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. {25} And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. {26} Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. {27} But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified."
One must go on past the chapter marking and read chapter 10, emphasis on verses 6 and 11. Chapter 10:13 tells us that we do not have to sin. We can opt out of sin through the way of escape God provides. The way of escape is to put to death the deeds of the body, resist Satan and submit to God. The preponderance of God's word makes it clear a person has to desire sin, ignore God's Word, disobey the voice of the Holy Spirit, reject the power of God, in order to commit the sin. People have used these scriptures to justify their sin, but these scripture's are actually evidence that the devil can't "make you do it." Consider Philippians 3:17-21. Here Paul clearly declares that those who live wickedly and unrestrained from committing sin, are actually enemies of the cross. Their error is that they will not yield to the Holy Spirit's inspiration to be wholly committed to God (Phil 3:17-21 NKJV) "Brethren, join in following my example, and note those who so walk, as you have us for a pattern. {18} For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: {19} whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame; who set their mind on earthly things. {20} For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, {21} who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself."
It becomes obvious by these and a preponderance of other scriptural evidence that Paul was not describing himself as an uncontrollable sinner saved by grace in Romans 7. A more logical explanation that keeps the continuity of the text is that he is in the process of describing the difference between life under the law and freedom under grace. The chapter marking of Romans 7 did not begin a new topic, nor did the 8th chapter marking end one. Paul began Romans 7 by reaffirming chapter 6 with a couple of metaphors from life. First, death ends physical law over your life. You cannot be arrested and tried in a human court of law if you are dead. Secondly, death ends the marriage contract which is self-explanatory. By using these illustrations he explains why we are free from the Mosaic law. We died at the point of salvation and our life was hid with Christ in God. Verse 6 proves that Paul was not an uncontrollable sinner saved by grace. He then begins at verse 7 and goes on to the end of verse 24 explaining the way the law affects an individual before the coming of grace into their lives. He does this by using himself in the third person, not as person presently debilitated and overcome by the desire for sin. The question he asks in verse 24 is answered in verse 25 and fully explained in 8:1-17, where he picks up the theme of chapter 6 again, totally refuting those who would use grace as a license to sin. This explanation of Romans 7 as a continuation of his teaching in the 6th chapter is consistent with Paul's teaching in Galatians. One would better understand Romans 8:1-4 if that reading was followed by reading Galatians 5:16-25, then go back and read Romans 8:5-14. I have done this for interested seekers of the truth in the following section. There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissension's, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. And those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God. But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. Therefore, brethren, we are debtors; not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. (Romans 8:1-4, Galatians 5:16-25, and Romans 8:5-14)
The fact is, a carnal Christian is but one step away from goathood and in very grave danger of eternal hell fire. Such an individual has lost the full meaning of salvation and is losing the concept of the holy nature of God. Such a person is not walking in some deviate form of liberty afforded by grace, but is instead returning to the bondage they once left. They have turned around on the path and started walking back to the darkness. Nothing in the life of Paul could be construed as to enforce such a blatant doctrine of apostasy. Likewise, there is not one scintilla of evidence in the lives of any New Testament example to the believers that might give even sparse covering for such an abuse of grace. In conclusion, I will state for the record that OSAS is a doctrine of demons. I realize that there are some sincere Christians that have unwittingly accepted and taught this doctrine, yet they must recant and denounce it once they know the truth. I cannot imagine God accepting any argument for clinging to this doctrine when one knows better. The argument might be made that there are some individuals that teach this doctrine who appear to be godly. I must answer by pointing out that Satan always seem to lay off persecuting his front line since they are the facade that belie the venomous deception just underneath the surface. You do not have to look very far to realize that most of those who live by OSAS live antinomian lifestyles that are complacent and compromised to the World System. |
