I used to believe that, as a general rule, a straightforward contradiction of the truth is not all that difficult for mature Christians to spot. However I am no longer certain this is true, since I am seeing not only considerable amount of outright error being mixed in with authentic truth, but more and more examples of Bible verses attached to complete fabrications. The Dominionist Doctrine is a volatile cocktail of both.

An Inherited Dominion?
Wagner says… [Emphasis Added]
An excellent starting point to explain the mission God gave us is to go to the story of creation itself. We are told in Genesis 1 that God created the earth and everything in it in five days, and then on the sixth day He created Adam and Eve. He created them, male and female, in His image. When He did, He blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth” (Gen. 1:28).
You may notice that I included that word “dominion” in the title of this chapter: “Let’s Take Dominion Now!” Why? Because the first words God spoke to humans, as recorded in the Bible, includes the mandate to “have dominion.” It wasn’t just Adam and Eve who were to have dominion; it was the whole human race that would “fill the earth” after Adam and Eve began being fruitful and multiplying. Apparently, having dominion over the rest of creation is something built into God’s original design for us humans; it is not an afterthought. To the extent that humans fail to have dominion, they also fail to live up to the fullness of their divine destiny.
See C Peter Wagner...The Spider in The Middle of A Very Large Web
in Section II: The New Apostolic Reformation.
As said before, Christians typically understand the passage in Genesis to mean that God gave humankind responsibility over the Earth or biological creation, but the Dominionist camp has taken the nature and extent of that instruction to extreme lengths, believing that Christians are to have dominion over, and responsibility for every living thing.. . Biblically mandated to ‘rule’ the earth. However this doesn’t stand up to scrutiny..
While Adam and Eve were originally given dominion, the situation changed very shortly after God spoke these words. They sinned and were forced out of the garden, barred from ever entering it again. There is absolutely no evidence that they retained this dominion after leaving the garden, nor that it was inherited by any of their descendents. In fact, they were both cursed when they left the garden. While Eve was cursed with painful childbirth, the very ground is cursed because of Adam, which caused him (and his descendents) to have to toil never endingly, eating their bread by the sweat of their brow. That doesn’t sound to me like Adam and Eve had dominion over the earth any longer, but became subject to their surroundings..
There is little question that, thanks to sin, Satan managed to establish his own dominion on earth (even Jesus did not contest Satan's right to offer Him the earth's kingdoms)
Again, the devil took Him [Jesus] up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.’’ [Matthew 4.8-9]
Jesus said “Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.” [John 14.30]
…the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. [2 Corinthians 4.4]
In an October 2009 article in Charisma magazine, C Peter Wagner is quoted as saying…
But Jesus came as the second Adam. He brought the kingdom of God to earth and sent His disciples out to preach the gospel of the kingdom. He has now commissioned us, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to advance His kingdom, to push Satan’s kingdom back and to retake the dominion that rightly belongs to the human race.
This is the Great Commission. It still includes healing the sick, casting out demons, saving souls, multiplying churches and feeding the hungry, but it goes far beyond these activities. It is putting feet to the prayer that Jesus taught us to pray: “Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”
How has this played out? The human race is enormously better off now than it was when Jesus died and was raised from the dead 2,000 years ago! Satan is losing ground more and more rapidly.
Those who think the world is getting worse and worse are missing the big picture of human history. I now regard my former pre-tribulationism and premillenialism as escapist eschatology.
The word “delusion” is defined as
an idiosyncratic belief or impression which is firmly maintained despite being contradicted by what is generally accepted as reality or rational argument, typically a symptom of mental disorder
Which is pretty much the case here.
I am not sure what “big picture” Wagner is talking about, unless he is referring to the very rapid spread of his organizations like the International Coalition of Apostles, which is a network of churches from all over the world, including more than 5,000 churches in the United States alone. (Actually, the swift advance of these apostate organizations only proves the point that we are in the days of the falling away spoken of in 2 Thessalonians 2:3). [See Section III: C Peter Wagner and The New Apostolic Reformation]
And again, I do not see how this is even his point since he himself says [Emphasis Added]
Since 1990, as I have explained, city transformation has been high on our priority lists. That, as I write this, was 15 years ago. Our best top-level Christian leadership has been involved with this in city after city across America. God has been providing incredible new tools for getting the job done—tools such as identificational repentance; spiritual mapping; strategic prophetic prayer; massive all-night, stadium prayer events; strategic-level spiritual warfare; prayer journeys; pastoral unity; and the concept of the church of the city. In addition, Bill Bright, Elmer Towns and others made fasting popular, and I would guess that somewhere around half of American evangelical pastors have now experienced 40-day fasts.
However, we cannot point to a single city in America that has been transformed in all of those 15 years!
15 years of “top-level Christian leadership” using God’s “incredible new tools” and not one city has been transformed. Hopefully those 40 day fasts resulted in a few shed pounds since they do not seem to have accomplished anything else. (Sarcasm Intentional).
However the leadership is flatly contradicting itself. On the one hand Wagner says not one city has been taken for God, but on the other hand George Otis Jr. of The Sentinel Group in Lynnwood, WA, in an hour long 1999 video called Transformations, claims to have documented dramatic transformations in several cities around the world after groups of born again believers targeted the source of demonic influence and then use intercessory prayer to drive out the entrenched demons.
The supposed “born again” cities were Helmet, California; Kiambu, Kenya; Almolonga, Guatemala; and Cali, Colombia; However it seems that the “breakthroughs” in these towns were wildly exaggerated at best, since there is no evidence for the community transformation they claim.
[See Born Again Cities in Section VII: Spiritual Warfare]
Incidentally, the reason the 2 Thessalonians 2:3 ‘Falling Away’ has been so ill recognized is simply because it has not adhered to most people’s perception of what a ‘Falling Away’ should look like. Most people probably expected humanity to become less religious and more materialistic... less spiritual and more worldly. While it is true that a large percentage of humanity has indeed become more carnal, a staggering number of people have actually become more “spiritual”. [See Signs of the Times]
There is absolutely no evidence that the church, through the spread of the gospel, is purifying the world.. and how can there be when evil men and impostors, that have secretly introduced destructive heresies, are themselves polluting the church in perfect fulfillment of 2 Tim. 3:1-5, which describes the decline of the church in the last days.
If “Satan is losing ground more and more rapidly” as Wagner says, what are we to make of the Scriptures (Revelation13) that tell us that in the very last days Satan will have authority over every tribe, tongue, and nation, that he will give authority to the beast who will then be worshiped, that he will make war with the saints and overcome them?
“The dragon gave him his power, his throne, and great authority.” [V.2]“So they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast” [V:4] “It was granted to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them. And authority was given him over every tribe, tongue, and nation. All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb” [Vs.7-8]
Besides which, there is not one shred of evidence that the Great Commission involves Jesus commissioning us to advance His kingdom, to push Satan’s kingdom back and to retake the dominion that rightly belongs to the human race. In fact the Bible flatly contradicts this, telling us that dominion is given to the Son of Man…. Daniel 7:14 says
One like a Son of Man came up to the Ancient of Days, and to Him was given dominion, Glory and a kingdom, that all the peoples, nations and men of every language might serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion which will not pass away; And His kingdom is one which will not be destroyed
Which, according to Daniel 7:27, will be given (FUTURE TENSE) to the saints [Emphasis Added]
Then the sovereignty, the dominion and the greatness of all the kingdoms under the whole heaven will be given to the people of the saints of the Highest One;
And when does this happen? According to the book of Revelation, only after Jesus puts paid to earthly kingdoms in the Tribulation. [All Emphasis Added]
“But hold fast what you have till I come. And he who overcomes, and keeps My works until the end, to him I will give power over the nations [Revelation 2:25-27]
“Then the seventh angel sounded: And there were loud voices in heaven, saying, "The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!" [Revelation 11:15]
“but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him for a thousand years.” [Revelation 20:6]
Dominion will be handed over only when Jesus physically returns to earth, but even then, all will be under Him.
Anyone tempted to fantasize that they are instrumental in removing Satan or are, in any way, instrumental in containing him, should read Revelation 20:1-3
“Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan , and bound him for a thousand years; and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him, so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished.”
“Manifest Sons of God”
In Hamon's Book Apostles, Prophets and the Coming Moves of God, he wastes little time in referring to the Church's "union with Deity." [Emphasis in Original]
Dr. Hamon has taken the authors prerogative in capitalizing certain words that are not usually capitalized according to the standard grammatical practice. This is done for the purpose of clarity and emphasis. References to the Church/Bride are capitalized because of her union with Deity through Jesus Christ. [3b].
The phrase Manifest Sons of God comes from Romans 8:18-19 in the KJV. [Emphasis Added]
For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. For the earnest expectation of the creature waits for the manifestations of the sons of God.
The book of Romans was written by Paul to the Roman believers. The eighth chapter focuses on the role of the indwelling Holy Spirit that sets all believers free from the law to serve God, Verse 14 being very clear that…
“… as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. [Romans 8:14]
In one sense all human beings are God's "offspring" (Acts 17:28). Even Adam was called God's "son" (Luke 3:38). However the terms Sons of God and Children of God are used interchangeably several times in the New Testament and very obviously refers to all Christians, not an elite group of “overcomers”. [All Emphasis Added]
Behold what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called children of God; and such we are. For this cause the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. Beloved, now are we children of God, and it is not yet made manifest what we shall be. We know that, if he shall be manifested, we shall be like him; for we shall see him even as he is. [1 John 3:1-2’
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called sons of God. [Matthew 5:9]
For ye are all sons of God, through faith, in Christ Jesus. [Galatians 3:26]
But as many as received him, to them gave he the right to become children of God, even to them that believe on his name: [John 1:12]
that ye may become blameless and harmless, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom ye are seen as lights in the world, [Philippians 2:15]
Incidentally, we become children, or Sons, of God through “adoption”, which obviously suggests that we are not "natural" sons of god.
For ye received not the spirit of bondage again unto fear; but ye received the spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. [Romans 8:15]
Galatians 4:5 that he might redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
Also note that Jesus was careful to distinguish between His Sonship and that of His followers (e.g., John 20:17).
By The Way: If you have ever wondered why Romans 8:15 speaks of the adoption in the past tense, and Galatians 4:5 speaks of the same adoption as not having taken place yet, you should read The Two Phase Atonement
The Bible Vs. Dominion Theology… End Time Doctrines
The Post Millennial Doctrine
Post-millenniumists believe that the Millennium is a period during which the kingdom of God is extended in the world through the preaching of the gospel and saving work of the Holy Spirit. The church progressively brings righteousness and peace to the world and that the world eventually will be Christianized. Following a brief time of tribulation, Christ will return to earth and establish a new heaven and a new earth for eternity.
C Peter Wagner says [All Emphasis Added]
“the prevailing eschatology (doctrine of the end times) of evangelicals was premillenialism. We expected the kingdom of God to come after Jesus returned to the earth. Therefore, we were not called to attempt to usher in God’s kingdom. God would do that in His own time. Whole denominations have elevated premillenialism to an absolute doctrinal principle alongside doctrines such as the deity of Christ and justification by faith. This explains why some would reject Dominion Theology and Kingdom Now Theology. A paradigm shift toward social transformation would force them to leave their eschatological comfort zone.”
I cannot help but wonder why “whole denominations have elevated premillenialism to an absolute doctrinal principle”. Perhaps because it is what is taught in Scripture and not because it is an “eschatological comfort zone”.
Neither Christ nor His apostles taught, on fair principles of interpretation, that the Millennium must come before His advent. Besides which things are getting worse not better. In the words of the Jeremiah Project… [All Emphasis Added]
There is no evidence that the church, through the spread of the gospel, is purifying the world. Conversely, all one need do is look around to see that the world is polluting the church in perfect fulfillment of 2 Tim. 3:1-5, which describes the decline of the church in the last days. Scripture makes it clear that the end of the age will not be characterized by world revival. It will be the Antichrist's ultimate hour of power, cut short not by the universal spread of the gospel but by the Day of the Lord judgment.
Besides which, in all of the texts of the NT where the entire sweep of the age between the first and second comings of Christ are both foretold and described, no mention is made of a Golden Age of righteousness. In fact … The Silence Is Deafening

A Kingdom Ruled By Man:
History should teach us some valuable lessons. At one time something close to a ‘global church' did exist. However it did not bring peace and justice, but, proving that absolute power corrupts absolutely, it brought religious abuse, extreme persecution, and oppression...
''From dawn till nightfall, the miserable captives [in the Pope's prison] would cling to the iron bars of their horrible dwellings, and perpetually call upon the passer-by for alms in the name of God. A Papal prison! How I shudder in writing the words... human beings were heaped confusedly together, covered with rags, and swarming with vermin.'' [Count Charles Arribavene, Italy Under Victor Emmanuel, 1862, vol II, p 389, as cited in Dave Hunt, A Woman Rides the Beast, p 131.]
''When Napoleon conquered Spain in 1808, a Polish officer in his army... reported that the Dominicans [in charge of the Inquisition] blockaded themselves in their monastery... When... troups forced an entry, the inquisitors denied the existence of any torture chambers. The soldiers searched the monastery and discovered them under the floors. The chambers were full of prisoners, all naked, many insane. The French troops, used to cruelty and blood, could not stomach the sight.''
And do not imagine the race has ''evolved'' beyond such behavior! Human nature has never changed and never will… Remember that Hitler happened barely over half century ago and atrocities are even now being perpetuated in every corner of the world.. one of the reasons that God’s wrath will fall on this planet.
[See The Wrath of God]
And, please don’t tell me this can never happen again. Human nature is human nature.. and often rotten to the core. Hitler happened less than 75 years ago, and even today genocide takes place in many many places. If the Dominionists can talk of “Civil Wars” and bloodshed to take over the kingdom, heaven only knows what they would be capable of to enforce control. [See Section 10: A Civil War]
I have read conflicting reports on whether the Dominionist camp believes The Rapture is an actual physical catching away of God’s people or a spiritual outpouring by Jesus onto his Apostles and Prophets. However C Peter Wagner says he regards his
In the revised version (1997 printing) of his book The Harvest, Rick Joyner said
The doctrine of the pre-tribulation rapture has been effective in developing a retreat mentality in the church but it will not ultimately succeed. Already this yoke has been cast off by the majority in the advancing church
With which I have to agree. Quite simply, Pre-Tribulationism is not "an explicit teaching of Scripture, and can very well be regarded as an “escapist eschatology”. Does it matter whether a person believes in a Pre or Post Tribulation rapture? Yes it does.. Immensely! In the words of pastor Tim Warner…
Some say it really doesn't matter if Jesus is coming before or after the tribulation, as long as we are "ready." They think we should all just agree to disagree, and love one another. But, "ready" is a relative term! It begs the question, "ready for what?" There is a huge difference between being ready to be gently whisked away to heaven on a pillow, and being ready to become a martyr at the hands of Antichrist!
[For Details See The Rapture]
Francis Frangipane, a “best selling author with more than 1.5 million books in print” places the physical Rapture after a spiritual gathering together of the church... and says that The Rapture has already begun “in our spirits”. … [All Emphasis Added]
"It is highly significant that the Scriptural term for the rapture is called 'the gathering together'. (2 Thessalonians 2:1; Matthew 24:31). What ultimately will be consummated in our gathering together physically to the Lord will be precipitated by a spiritual gathering together of His body on earth”
“It is most solemn yet joyous truth: the Rapture for which the church awaits has already begun in our spirits! Right now, God has raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him on the heavenly places in Christ Jesus” (Eph.2:6)!
A day is coming before the rapture, before the second coming of Jesus Christ, when those who follow Christ will be positioned, like the morning star—in the right place at the right time—and they will herald Christ's return. They will come from every nation, people, tribe and tongue, yet they will be one, for Christ will have given them His glory (John 17:22).
However what is missing in the writings of both the Dominionist and traditional camps is one very basic question. Why?
Why does there have to be a Rapture at all?
Why, according to 1Thessalonians 4:17, do the Lord’s people have to be “caught up in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air”?
There has to be a reason other than a celestial joy ride.
Since we can be reasonably sure that that after meeting the Lord in the air, we do not stay suspended in space, but have to go somewhere. The question is… Do we continue on into “Heaven”, or do we turn around and accompany Christ back to Earth?
Yes, I know that many believe that Christians will go to heaven after the rapture, however I am not sure whether these Christians have ever thought the matter through, much less checked what the Bible has to say about it. Sadly, belief in a vague Heaven somewhere out there seems to be based more on endless cartoons of people with wings standing around on white clouds strumming harps, than what Scripture says. Heaven as a place removed from the earth is not, and never was the destination of the believer. [See Heaven and Earth Below]. In short.. we aren’t going very far. As emphasized by the use of the Greek word apantesis translated meet in I Thessalonians 4:17… we meet the Lord in the air then turn around and accompany Him back to the earth… [More About This In The Next Section]
Which however still does not answer the question of Why? Why should we meet Jesus in the air and then torn around and come back to earth? The answer is very very simple.. The believers or “sons of the kingdom” are ‘Raptured’ or physically moved away from the earth so that the Bowls can be poured out on the earth, in which the wrath of God is finished. As Zephaniah 1:2 says “I will utterly consume all things from off the face of the ground, says the Lord”.
[For Details of that and other events that take place at the last and final trumpet,
See That Earth Shaking Seventh Trumpet]
"But as for you, go your way to the end; then you will enter into rest and rise again for your allotted portion at the end of the age." [Daniel 12:13]
Heaven on Earth?
A good example of a lethal combination of truth and error is found on the web site of Ryan Wyatt's Abiding Glory Ministries in Knoxville, TN and host of the TV show “Abiding Glory with Ryan Wyatt”. Their site sells a 10 DVD set called “Kingdom Culture Conference” in which “Ryan Wyatt, Che Ahn, Lance Wallnau, Bob Jones (instead of Graham Cooke), and Scott Hughes train and equip us to live in and experience the unshakable, supernatural culture of God's kingdom!” Wow! [12a]
Abiding Glory also advertises “Two intense days of training in the supernatural with Ryan Watt” [All Emphasis Added]
There is currently a revolution taking place in the understanding of believers all over the world. Most believers have been preached a gospel of salvation that gets them saved enough to “go to heaven”. The problem with only hearing this limited portion of the good news of the Kingdom is that it has not prepared a people to actually fulfill God's ultimate call for His people. Here is the age-old, revolutionary understanding that many in the church are now beginning to grasp: You were not born again just so you could one day “go to heaven”. In fact, humanity was not created for heaven at all. We were created to be filled with God and carry, release, and fill the earth with heaven! As born again believers, we are not even bound for heaven at all.
We are already seated in heavenly places with a mandate from God to establish and expand the Kingdom of God, on earth as it is in heaven.... God is bringing the Kingdom of heaven here and we, as born-again believers, are His agents He intends to do it through.
Heaven and earth will be brought together as one in Jesus as He begins to fill ALL things. Will a greater dimension of the Kingdom come to earth when Jesus physically returns again? Of course. But until that time comes, we have been given a mandate not to wait around and be good Christians until Jesus comes to save us, while the world gets darker. NO, we have a mandate to establish and expand the Kingdom of God….” [12b]
Let’s start with the truth of the above quote. Most people believe that when we die we go to heaven and dwell for all eternity with the immortals. This characterized by the never ending jokes about St. Peter at the Pearly Gates, waiting to admit the man of faith who is now in a vague state of disembodied blessedness. However these popular ideas originate from Greek mythology not Biblical theology, although we seem to have added a few details of our own... I doubt the Greeks were responsible for the clouds and harps.
The message of Jesus' famous beatitude, "Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the land" can no longer be heard above the din of endless funeral sermons announcing that the dead have gone to heaven! In one of the most solemn declarations of all time the Almighty God promised to give to Abraham an entire country, yet traditional Christian theology has almost no interest in the land promised to Abraham. Heaven is not an ethereal place situated in the outer limits of space, but very much here on earth.
For Details See What and Where is Heaven?
However there is not a single shred of evidence in favour of the supposed mandate to establish and expand the Kingdom of God on earth, other than preaching the Gospel to all nations, which is expanding the Kingdom. In fact, the epistles teach that we are ''aliens and strangers'' in this world (1 Peter 2:11), and that we are to set our minds ''on the things above, not on the things that are on earth'' (Colossians 3:2).
Which bring us to yet another very big question….
What Exactly is The Point of The Great Tribulation?
Dominionists believe that it is the church that establishes dominion over the world, with the much vaunted “Army of the Lord” demonstrating “the power of God” and going forth as mighty warriors to “shake whole nations”, then establish the kingdom.
Then what exactly is the reason for the Great Tribulation? Mike Bickle’s International House of Prayer says
This revolution will include Jesus coming back to earth to replace all the leadership on the earth that aligns with darkness.
Certainly there shouldn’t be any leaders left that “align themselves with darkness”, or perhaps that kingdom isn’t established quite as firmly as they think.
Rick Joyner, describes the Great Tribulation as
Almost daily, there is evidence that the foundations of world governments and institutions are crumbling. In biblical prophecy, the primary cause of what is called, “the great tribulation” (see Matthew 24:21; Revelation 7:14), which will come at the end of this age, is the result of human problems exceeding human remedies.
But doesn’t the Bible tell us that God Himself is the “primary cause” of the Great Tribulation? That God has been amazingly patient with this world, but there is a day looming on the horizon when the iniquity of the Gentiles will be full, when He will say, "No more!". Didn’t Old Testament prophets such as Joel, Daniel, Malachi, Zephaniah and Isaiah speak of this time when God would bring an end to the injustice and suffering in this world. When His righteous anger for all the wrongs committed will flood the earth, bringing punishment on the transgressors..
“rendering vengeance to them that know not God, and to them that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus” [2 Thessalonians 1:8].
I will utterly consume all things from off the face of the ground, saith Jehovah. I will consume man and beast; I will consume the birds of the heavens, and the fishes of the sea, and the stumbling blocks with the wicked; and I will cut off man from off the face of the ground, saith Jehovah. [Zephaniah 1:2-3]
Isn’t Romans 1:18 explicit enough when it sets forth the reasons for "the time of Jacob's trouble"
“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hinder the truth in unrighteousness;”
Why in the world would God need to wreak vengeance if the church has already established the kingdom?
…And Why Is It Shortened?
George Warnock believed the Great Tribulation would be darkness to one class of people but not so "the Sons of God."
"It shall therefore be Great Tribulation, such as was never known from the foundation of the world; but it shall also be Great Glory. . .one class of people it shall be a day of 'darkness' and of 'gloominess.' But to the other, 'as the morning spread upon the mountains.' (Joel 2:2) To the one the Great Tribulation; but to the other, 'The Manifestation of the Sons of God.'"
He also said..
"Now we can understand how the overcomer in the Day of the Lord, when Great Tribulation is upon the earth, will be able to administer help and comfort and sustenance to God's people who are under oppression and persecution. The Great Tribulation itself is going to be cut short because of the Sons of God. . .so the Sons of God, through the exercise of their royal priesthood, shall actually shorten the Great Tribulation. Jesus has declared that they would: 'For the elect's sake those days shall be shortened." (Matt.24:22) The elect will have entered into a new priesthood, a royal priesthood. As priests, they will be able to present the needs of the people to God, and intercede for them; and as kings they will have the authority of God to dispense life and blessing to such as are in tribulation and distress. [Pg. 79.]
All Jesus said regarding the shortening of the Great Tribulation was…
“for then there will be a great tribulation, such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever shall. And unless those days had been cut short, no life would have been saved; but for the sake of the elect those days shall be cut short” (Matthew 24:21, 22).
Where in this statement did Warnock read that the Sons of God will themselves shorten the great tribulation.
Whoops sorry! There I go reading Scripture for clarification again. Why do I keep forgetting that invention, imagination and delusion are the hallmarks of this movement.
Who Executes Judgment?
A huge part of the fanciful imaginations of the Dominionists is that they are going to be instruments of God’s wrath and the events of the Great Tribulation will be released through them. As said in The Coming Eschatological Revolution on Mike Bickle’s International House of Prayer site
As the Book of Acts describes the power of the Holy Spirit that was released through the early Church so the Book of Revelation describes the power of the Holy Spirit that will be released through the end-time Church…. As Moses released God’s judgments on Pharaoh by prayer (Exod 7-12), so the Church will release the Great Tribulation judgments on the Antichrist by prayer. The miracles and judgments in Exodus and Acts will be multiplied and released worldwide through prayer…. These judgment events do not happen to us as helpless victims of Satan, but they are released through us as participants with Jesus.
In his book The Call, Rick Joyner talks of meeting famous Biblical personages including Lot, Jonah, Abel and Adam. He supposedly asks Adam … [Emphasis Added]
“What about the earthquakes, famines and even wars that you said we would release on the earth? Won’t this be releasing death?”
An insurmountable hurdle for all these fanciful theories is that there is absolutely not one shred of evidence in Scripture that shows the Church participating in any of the judgments of the Great Tribulation. And yes, I understand that Earl Paulk calls checking the Scriptures “A cloak of spirituality”, but weighing the odds, I guess I will take my chances with the Bible being more accurate than a man who was so disgraced that his church fell apart at the seams and eventually was sold. Not to mention his cloudy theology, where on the one hand he said [All Emphasis Added]
Many Christians incorrectly believe everything God would have us know has already been written. The book of John says that many things are yet to be spoken that are not written in the Bible.
And on the other
Because I believe the Bible is a closed canon, I acknowledge the limitations upon spoken prophecy that such a statement implies.
As a matter of fact the book of John says no such thing. What it does say is
And there are also many other things which Jesus did, which if they were written in detail, I suppose that even the world itself would not contain the books that would be written. [John 21:25]
So turning to the Scriptures, which are anything but confused, we should realize that, in the book of Revelation, the silence is deafening concerning the church being at all involved in the judgments. In fact Revelation does not mention even Jesus being an instrument of God’s wrath except at the very end.. or Armageddon. Lets take a brief look at the Seven Seals, The Seven Trumpets and The Seven Bowls and find out who exactly is responsible for the afflictions in each of the periods.
While it is true that no one in heaven is found who is worthy to “open the scroll” and open the seals except Jesus, the seals are not God’s judgment on the earth, but man’s inhumanity to man… the persecution of the church.
The Seven Seals (Revelation 6-7) exactly parallel the Olivet Discourse (Matthew 24) and, in summary, both the Olivet Discourse and the Seals include, in the same sequence, the events leading up to, and the actual tribulation of the church. Both accounts then go into the Great Tribulation of God’s wrath… a period of time such as the world has never seen.
In fact, the wrath of God is His response to the unbelieving and unrepentant on earth who have brought this great tribulation upon the church and spilled the blood of the saints, which is why it is not even mentioned until the opening of the sixth seal … an ‘overview’ of the trumpet and bowl judgments to come. The sixth seal pictures the “kings of the earth” trying to hide from the Lord as “the great day of their wrath is come..”
It is, I am sorry to say, in this period of the Seven Seals that the words of Jesus will come to pass..
"Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death. You will be hated by all because of My name, but it is the one who has endured to the end who will be saved. [Matthew 10: 21-22].
Perhaps His words will be fulfilled in the “Civil War” so graphically portrayed by such as Rick Joyner and Wes Campbell. [See The Seven Seals and Matthew 24]
The First Six Trumpets:
Which bring us to the Wrath of God which Jesus describes as a time of Great Tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, and never will be again. He then goes on to say “... if those days had not been shortened, no human being would be saved”. The Great Tribulation takes the form of a series of seven catastrophes that fall on the earth, each of which is heralded by an angel blowing a Trumpet.
For example Revelation tells us that
And the first sounded, and there followed hail and fire, mingled with blood… And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood… And the third angel sounded, and there fell from heaven a great star, burning as a torch, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of the waters; and the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters.
Nothing, but absolutely nothing, is said about any human being involved in the world wide judgment. It is the angels that pour the “wine of the wrath of God” (Revelation 14:10) on this earth.
[See The Judgment of God... The First Six Trumpets]
The Seventh Trumpet and The Rapture:
It is at this point in time after the six plagues are done that that John sees a white cloud; and says “on the cloud I saw one sitting like unto a son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand sharp sickle”. This is obviously Jesus who referred to Himself as the “son of man” well over fifty times in the Gospels. Then “He that sat on the cloud cast his sickle upon the earth; and the earth was reaped”…. a gathering in of the good crop. This harvesting in of the “sons of the kingdom” is “The Rapture”, when the believers are physically moved away from the earth so that the Bowls can be poured out on the earth, in which the wrath of God is finished. In a sense, the Tribulation is over, the doors to the Kingdom are closed forever and God publicly reclaims his rightful rule over the earth [Revelation 11:15].
[See That Earth-Shaking Seventh Trumpet]
The Seven Bowls:
And what happens after believers are moved to safety?
So the angel thrust his sickle into the earth and gathered the vine of the earth, and threw it into the great winepress of the wrath of God. And the winepress was trampled outside the city, and blood came out of the winepress, up to the horses' bridles, for one thousand six hundred furlongs.” [Revelation 14:14-20]
Scripture is clear that the seventh Trumpet does not describe one specific judgment as do the first six, but incorporates all seven bowls. In other words the seventh Trumpet is the seven bowls which, at their end, usher in God’s kingdom. And guess who delivers the Seven bowls?
And one of the four living creatures gave unto the seven angels seven golden bowls full of the wrath of God, who liveth for ever and ever…. And the temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God, and from his power; and none was able to enter into the temple, till the seven plagues of the seven angels should be finished. And I heard a great voice out of the temple, saying to the seven angels, Go ye, and pour out the seven bowls of the wrath of God into the earth. [Revelation 15:1, 7, 8, 16:1. All Emphasis Added]
[See The End of The Age.. The Seven Bowls]
It is only in chapter 19, when the heaven open, that Jesus is seen riding a white horse, arrayed in a garment sprinkled with blood, and with KINGS OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS written on His thigh. The heavenly armies clothed in fine linen, and also riding white horses, follow Him to make war with the beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies… Satan’s last hurrah!
And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat upon the horse, and against his army. And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought the signs in his sight, wherewith he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast and them that worshipped his image: they two were cast alive into the lake of fire that burneth with brimstone: and the rest were killed with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, even the sword which came forth out of his mouth: and all the birds were filled with their flesh. [Revelation 19:19-21]
And here it is possible that the armies which are in heaven and which follow the King of Kings to the final battle could be referring to an already raptured and glorified church.
And the armies which are in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and pure. [Revelation 19:14]
Isaiah echoes the battle of Armageddon
“Who is this who comes from Edom, With dyed garments from Bozrah, This One who is glorious in
His apparel, Traveling in the greatness of His strength”; “I who speak in righteousness, mighty to save.” “Why is Your apparel red, And Your garments like one who treads in the winepress?” “I have trodden the winepress alone, And from the peoples no one was with Me. For I have trodden them in My anger, And trampled them in My fury; Their blood is sprinkled upon My garments, And I have stained all My robes. For the day of vengeance is in My heart, And the year of My redeemed has come. I looked, but there was no one to help, And I wondered That there was no one to uphold; Therefore My own arm brought salvation for Me; And My own fury, it sustained Me. I have trodden down the peoples in My anger, made them drunk in My fury, And brought down their strength to the earth.” (Isaiah 63:1-6)
From the beginning of tribulation in which man persecutes the church, through the Great Tribulation when the seven plagues are poured out as a judgment on the earth, all the way through the Seven Bowls which herald the end of the age, there is NOT A SINGLE WORD about man being the instruments of God’s vengeance. From beginning to end it is the angels that administer the judgments, until the final battle of Armageddon when Christ Himself leads a heavenly army into the final battle.
Any other scenario is the product of either a very delusional mind or a very evil one.
Paul Crouch, of course, has his own twist on this.
Read the parable of the Wheat and the Tares in Matthew 13:24-30 and you will see that at the end of this age the "ANGELS" are sent forth to remove evil from the earth. That word "ANGELS" also means messengers. So God may use some of us to finish up the work of this age."
So, if Scripture does not support the basic claims of this movement, where do the leaders come up with all their fairy stories? The answer is simple.. From either a very shallow understanding of Scripture or, in many cases, outright manipulation of particular verses wrested from their context. All too often Scripture has been viewed through the lens of particularly disturbing visions and dreams (instead of the other way around). Knowing this, all Satan ever has to do is imitate “the voice of God” through actual speech and/or visions, dreams, and impressions and the gullible will swallow it hook, line and sinker.
Section XIV: More Examples of The Dominion Leadership’s Inventive Interpretations of Scripture While it is not possible to document every single instance of the shallow understanding (or even manipulation) of Scriptures to support the beliefs of the Dominionist leadership, several instances have come up, and been refuted, in the various sections of this article. In this section are a few more examples from the writings of Bill Hamon, Francis Frangipane, John Bevere, C Peter Wagner and Rick Joyner. Open your Bible FIRST.
