Playing The God-Card BUSH PROMOTING HOMOSEXUAL AGENDA: DO CONSERVATIVES CARE? By Pastor Chuck Baldwin May 22, 2003 Also See Section on Homosexuality Christian conservatives regard President George W. Bush as a committed Christian and staunch conservative. This is very perplexing as Bush's track record on numerous key conservative issues is less than stellar, to put it mildly. For example, when one looks at Bush's record regarding favored treatment for the homosexual agenda, he discovers that Bush is every bit the pro-homosexual president that Bill Clinton was. Maybe more so. Consider that President Bush and the entire Republican leadership left Senator Santorum to virtually fend for himself in the face of blistering attacks when he verbalized his support for Texas' (Bush's home state) law against sodomy. However, this is just the latest example of Bush's propensity to curry favor with radical homosexuals. In 2000, Bush attempted to rid the Republican platform of planks against homosexual marriage and homosexuals in the military. He also lobbied to grant special civil rights for sodomites. President Bush has kept in place a 1998 Clinton executive order prohibiting discrimination against sodomites in the federal workforce. Bush ordered the military to stop expelling homosexuals after the "war on terrorism" began. Bush and the GOP Congress passed legislation extending family health benefits to Washington, D.C., employee's "partners" and also gave adoption rights to D.C. homosexual couples. Bush has appointed numerous open homosexuals to high office within his government. He even authorized tax dollars to pay for travel and housing of all homosexual "partners" of American diplomats. Bush has increased funding for homosexual propaganda campaigns under the guise of "health education" programs.
The list of Bush's pro-homosexual policies and decisions would literally fill a book. In fact, the GOP's habit of promoting the homosexual agenda has become so redundant that even staunch Republicans such as Gary Bauer, James Dobson, Phyllis Schlafly, and Ken Connor recently expressed their disappointment and concern. However, instead of merely expressing disappointment and concern, Christian conservatives need to wake up to the reality that at the national level the GOP is not their friend. It has no intention of promoting their beliefs and only uses them to garner votes. Furthermore, conservatives need to get over their sophomoric infatuation with G. W. Bush and start telling the truth about his dismal record regarding the homosexual agenda. © 2003 Chuck Baldwin - All Rights Reserved [TOP OF PAGE] BUSH BETRAYED PRO-LIFERS AGAIN, BUT DID THEY EVEN NOTICE? By Chuck Baldwin March 3, 2003 See Section on Abortion Once again, President G. W. Bush has betrayed the pro-life cause. According to Knox News, "In a major policy shift, President Bush has decided to allow social service agencies in Africa and the Caribbean to receive U.S. funds under his $15 billion emergency AIDS relief plan even if they promote family planning and provide abortions, White House officials said." The Washington Times added, "The new plan grows out of the 'Mexico City' policy-first declared by President Reagan at a 1984 U.N. conference in that city-which bars U.S. taxpayer money from going to groups that fund or promote abortion overseas." Bush's initial decision to continue Reagan's policy to not provide funds for overseas abortion providers was about the only substantive pro-life decision so far in his administration. Now that he has reversed the policy, the sum total of Bush's commitment to the life issue is his carefully crafted, but meaningless, rhetoric! However, what is more disheartening is the fact that most "pro- lifers" won't even notice. Because Bush talks pro-life, very few people bother to examine his record on the subject. We are living in a day and age in which the sum total of a politicians' accountability is reduced to thirty second sound bites on television news. President Bush is a living example of the old adage, "The man who has the reputation of rising early can sleep 'till noon." Obviously, a few pro-lifers are paying attention. The Times quotes Connie Mackay from the Family Research Council as saying, "This is not acceptable to us." However, for the most part, pro- lifers seem oblivious to Bush's most recent betrayal. Those who believe that President Bush is going to do anything to reverse the Roe v Wade Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion on demand are living in a dream world! They are also dreaming if they believe the Republican Party as a whole has any intention of making abortion illegal. Until pro-lifers come to understand that at the national level neither the Republican nor the Democratic party represents them and begin mustering their forces behind genuine pro-life candidates from outside the establishment parties, there will be no end to legal abortions. Then again, that requires that people actually start paying more attention to what politicians do than what they say, and that doesn't seem likely to happen anytime soon, either. © 2003 Chuck Baldwin - All Rights Reserved. [TOP OF PAGE] IS THE RELIGIOUS RIGHT GULLIBLE, NAÏVE, OR WILLINGLY IGNORANT? By Pastor Chuck Baldwin March 12, 2005 See Section on Abortion It is time to ask some hard questions about the preponderance of leaders and organizations commonly identified as the Religious Right. Are they gullible, naïve, or willingly ignorant? How can anyone who truly believes that unborn babies deserve the right to life continue to support President George W. Bush? His track record on the life issue screams betrayal! Let's get real: on the subject of protecting the lives of unborn babies, Bush is just so much hot air! American Life League president Judy Brown, columnist Thomas Droleskey, Howard Phillips, Covenant News.com web host Jim Rudd, and many others have provided the American people with incontrovertible documentation regarding G.W. Bush's dismally pathetic record on the life issue. They have chronicled facts including: Practically everyone in Bush's cabinet is pro-abortion. Bush is the first president to authorize stem cell research. In fact, his appointee to directorship of the National Institute of Health, Dr. Elias Zerhouni, is a pioneer in embryonic stem cell research. President Bush even blocked a vote on a congressional amendment that would have banned the patenting of human embryos. President Bush has done nothing to remove abortifacients such as RU-486 from the shelves. He even supported the National Organization of Women (NOW) in their racketeering suit against Joe Scheidler and other pro-life advocates. President Bush has approved millions of taxpayer dollars in funding for Planned Parenthood. He has authorized federal funding for abortion providers overseas to levels even higher than those authorized by President Bill Clinton! Speaking of overseas funding for abortion, President Bush's $15 billion AIDS package provides payments to organizations that provide abortions including the International Planned Parenthood Federation. President Bush even admitted his opposition to overturning Roe v Wade by stating emphatically, "there will be abortions. That's a reality." Of course, the President's wife Laura has also publicly said she is opposed to overturning Roe v Wade. President Bush has repeatedly said that he has no litmus test on the life issue when it comes to appointing federal judges. Why does the Religious Right claim he intends to do something he has plainly and repeatedly denied? Again, are they gullible, naïve, or willingly ignorant? Beyond that, how far will the Religious Right go in their compromise and surrender of the life issue? Indications are there is practically no limit to their sellout. We are already hearing leaders within the Religious Right say they will support the Republican presidential nominee in 2008 even if that nominee is openly pro-abortion. Such talk is obviously an attempt to begin calming potential concerns among pro-life conservatives if and when the Republican Party nominates a pro-abortion presidential candidate, which appears very likely to happen. For example, a recent national gathering of Republicans voted Rudy Guiliani and Condi Rice as the top two choices to lead the GOP ticket in 2008. Of course, both Guiliani and Rice are pro-abortion. It will more than interesting to listen to leaders of the Religious Right postulate on how a pro-abortion Democrat is evil but a pro- abortion Republican is righteous! Again, is the Religious Right gullible, naïve, or willingly ignorant? Perhaps disgusting is a more appropriate word to describe the behavior of the Religious Right. In order to keep its most favored special interest group status, it has compromised and capitulated just about every cardinal principal, including the life issue. As a result, Republican presidents and congresses will continue to come and go, the Religious Right will continue to bask in the warm glow of Republican acceptance, and millions of pre-born babies will continue to have their little bodies torn apart by the abortionist's scalpel. Do not fear, however. At least a Democrat is not in the White House. Obviously, that matters little to the more than 4 million unborn babies who have been slaughtered in the wombs of their mothers since G.W. Bush became President. What does matter, of course, is that the Religious Right is happy to embrace the Republican presidential candidate, his or her commitment to the unborn notwithstanding. Is the Religious Right gullible, naïve, or willingly ignorant? It really doesn't matter. Whatever the motive or whatever the cause, the Religious Right has ceased to be a credible proponent of protecting the lives of unborn children, which leads to the greater question: who will pick up the mantle as the voice for the unborn? © 2005 Chuck Baldwin - All Rights Reserved [TOP OF PAGE] WITH REPUBLICANS LIKE THESE, WHO NEEDS DEMOCRATS? By Pastor Chuck Baldwin May 4, 2005 My friend Howard Phillips recently wrote a column outlining the philosophy and historical track record of the Republican Party since George W. Bush became President. Sad to say, even a cursory review of this record reveals the fact that the Republican Party in Washington, D.C., has become little more than a carbon copy of the Democratic Party. Phillips writes, "Sadly, the GOP's elected and appointed officials conform themselves almost without exception to that which Mr. Bush espouses, including: a. an expanded Federal role in education, b. record setting subsidies for pro-abortion and pro-homosexual organizations, c. increased funding for the United Nations, d. the attempted extension of Bill Clinton's assault weapons ban (blocked in Congress), e. social Security benefits for illegal aliens who have returned to Mexico, f. the ongoing reduction of the U.S. Navy (which now stands at 289 ships, compared to 600 under Ronald Reagan), g. amnesty for illegal aliens, h. nominees for the Federal judiciary and the Office of Attorney General who espouse the doctrine that Roe v. Wade is 'settled law', i. support for Food and Drug Administration policies approving the abortion 'pill', RU-486, which has been used to kill scores of thousands of unborn children, j. overturning Ronald Reagan's decision to withdraw from UNESCO, k. increased funding for the National Endowment for the Arts, l. multi-billion dollar support for the Federal Legal Services Corporation and its 25,000 left-wing legal activists, m. murder-abetting assistance to the Communist government in Angola, n. historically high multi-trillion dollar fiscal deficits and trade deficits, o. a multi-trillion dollar Medicare entitlement program, p. a $20 million 'New Freedom' program to evaluate the mental health of 53 million students in the government schools. q. enactment of the McCain-Feingold campaign regulation law which criminalizes free speech, r. support for the U.N. Law of the Sea Treaty (UNLOST) which President Reagan rejected, s. endorsement of homosexual 'civil unions', t. promotion of FTAA, NAFTA, CAFTA, and the WTO, u. a too broadly drawn Patriot Act with its outrageous 'sneak and peek' provisions,
and many more things, a significant proportion of which would have been blocked by a Republican Congress had a Democrat President proposed them." Of course, most conservatives have chosen to ignore or even deny these facts. The only answer they seem to come up with is, "Think how bad it would be if Democrats were in charge." However, with Republicans like these, who needs Democrats? © 2005 Chuck Baldwin - All Rights Reserved. [TOP OF PAGE] COULD TERESA HEINZ KERRY GET AWAY WITH THIS? By Pastor Chuck Baldwin June 8, 2005 It is extremely difficult for me to understand the double standard of today's conservative Christian pastors and televangelists. Their willingness to overlook, and even condone, the improper conduct of President Bush, or in this case, First Lady Laura Bush is appalling. Preachers are called to be prophets of God, not political lackeys. However, it is painfully obvious that political lackeys are exactly what most of them have become. A classic case in point is the incredible indifference of conservative Christian ministers regarding the vulgar and profane words recently uttered by Laura Bush. Without a doubt, if Teresa Heinz Kerry had said what Laura Bush said, the outcry among evangelicals would have been deafening! As it is, there has not been so much as a whimper of protest or rebuke! The occasion was the annual White House Correspondents' Association dinner in Washington, D.C. In a scripted "interruption" of the President's remarks, Laura began by comparing herself to the sleazy characters of the television sitcom, Desperate Housewives. She said, "Ladies and gentlemen, I am a desperate housewife. I mean, if those women on that show think they are desperate, they ought to be with George." Her remarks only went downhill from there. Mrs. Bush continued by saying, "One night, after George went to bed, [Vice President Dick Cheney's wife] Lynne Cheney, [Secretary of State] Condi Rice, [Bush adviser] Karen Hughes and I went to Chippendales [a strip club where women tuck cash into male dancer's skimpy thongs]. I wouldn't even mention it except [Supreme Court Justices] Ruth Ginsberg and Sandra Day O'Connor saw us there. I won't tell you what happened, but Lynne's Secretary Service code name is now 'Dollar Bill.'"
Now, ask yourself, "Does anyone really believe that the spokesmen for the Religious Right would sit back and say nothing if a Democrat president's wife would say such things?" Of course not. They would immediately lead a letter-writing (and fund- raising) campaign aimed at exposing the gaffe and calling for a public apology from the White House. That this didn't happen reveals the extent of the Religious Right's marriage to the Republican Party in general and to the Bush administration in particular. But it gets worse. Mrs. Bush then referenced President Bush's lack of ranching skills by saying, "He's learned a lot about ranching since that first year when he tried to milk the horse. What's worse, it was a male horse." Regarding these remarks, Michelle Malkin (a long time Bush supporter) wrote in the New York Post, "Her off-color stripper and horse jokes crossed the line. Can you blame Howard Stern for feeling peeved and perplexed? And let's face it: If Teresa ('I'm cheeky!') Heinz Kerry had delivered Mrs. Bush's First Lady Gone Mildly Wild routine, social conservative pundits would be up in arms over her bad taste and lack of dignity." Malkin continued saying, "The First Lady resorting to horse masturbation jokes is not much better than Whoopi Goldberg trafficking in dumb puns on the Bush family name. It was wholly unnecessary." Amen.
Many people are calling the President's wife's remarks an aberration, but is it really? Remember that it was only about a month previous to Laura's male stripper and "horse masturbation" jokes that the First Lady "rose with the rest of the National Theatre audience in a standing ovation for Jefferson Mays's performance in the one-man play 'I am My Own Wife,' which tells the story of an East German transvestite." (Source: The Washington Post, 4/7/05) Conservative Christians should also be aware that Laura Bush supports (and has said so publicly) the Roe v Wade Supreme Court decision which legalized abortion on demand. In this regard, Laura joins former First Ladies Hillary Clinton, Barbara Bush, and Nancy Reagan in supporting a woman's "right" to kill her unborn baby. Perhaps these glimpses into the Bush family's personal propensities help explain why their twin girls, Jenna and Barbara, when only in their teens, were already noted as being hardcore binge drinkers and party animals. On more than one occasion, President Bush has had to dispatch Secret Service agents to bail his girls out of trouble with local law enforcement officials for various alcohol infractions including underage drinking and other types of misconduct. One or both of the girls have received fines, been sentenced to hours of community service, been told to attend alcohol awareness courses and had their driver's license suspended. And that's just what the press has divulged. To be sure, I sympathize with those parents (including George and Laura) who struggle with sinful, wayward children. But for God's grace, those could be my children. However, as our President and First Lady, Mr. and Mrs. Bush have a duty to hold high the moral standard of our nation. That they are willing to publicly use vulgar and profane innuendos, even in jest, reveals a serious lack of character and discernment. The real point of this story, again, is not the misjudgments and misconduct of the Bush family, but the unwillingness of the Religious Right to hold this President to the same standards that they would hold Al Gore, John Kerry, or any other Democratic president to. This is simply another glaring lesson on the dangers of Christians putting partisan politics above commitment to bedrock principle. Unfortunately, it's been going on since President Bush was first elected in 2000 and there is no sign that it will stop anytime soon. © 2005 Chuck Baldwin - All Rights Reserved. [TOP OF PAGE] AS USUAL, CONSERVATIVE CHRISTIANS DON'T GET IT By Pastor Chuck Baldwin January 9, 2006 With confirmation hearings underway for Judge Samuel Alito, many conservative Christians are focusing on the abortion issue. In fact, many pro-life activists are hailing Alito as the man who would overturn legalized abortion in America. However, as is usually the case, most conservative Christians cannot see beyond the abortion debate to look at the bigger picture. Then again, myopia seems to be a permanent disorder affecting a majority of conservative Christians today, so why should things suddenly change now? For the record, Judge Alito probably finds abortion personally repugnant. It is certainly safe to say that Alito's opinions on abortion seem to reflect greater respect for life than anything we saw from Justice Sandra Day O'Connor. However, that reality alone will not make much difference. There is a greater reality at work here that most conservative Christians deliberately choose to ignore: the Republican Party has no intentions of ending legalized abortion! Absolutely none! To the vast majority of Republicans in Washington, D.C., the abortion issue is merely a ready-made sugar-stick to hand out to conservative Christians every election cycle in order to keep them corralled in the GOP vote column. As long as a Republican candidate can claim to be "pro-life," he or she can count on receiving sizeable support from conservative Christians. That simple statement, whether genuine or not, whether followed with any substantive action or not, guarantees that most Christian televangelists will spend countless hours pleading with their supporters to vote "pro-life" by supporting the GOP ticket. It doesn't matter that so-called "pro-life" Republican candidates have had over 30 years to overturn Roe and are no closer now to doing so than they were when Roe was first decided. It doesn't matter that not a single "pro-life" Republican congressman has introduced legislation under Article III, Section 2, of the U.S. Constitution to remove Roe from the jurisdiction of the Court, which is the prerogative of Congress to do. It doesn't matter that after spending multiplied millions of dollars and electing hundreds of "pro-life" Republicans, nothing has been done to overturn Roe. It doesn't matter that the Republican Party has controlled the White House for over 17 of the last 25 years and, accordingly, has controlled appointments to the U.S. Supreme Court for all of those years (not to mention the fact that it was a majority Republican- appointed Court that passed the Roe decision), and nothing has been done to overturn Roe. All that matters is that Republicans talk "pro-life" during the election cycle. How can any sensible person believe that the Republican Party truly intends to overturn the Roe v Wade Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion on demand? It's beyond laughable: it's hysterical! Even if Judge Alito would vote to overturn Roe should the opportunity present itself, it is almost certain that Chief Justice John Roberts would not vote to overturn it. Therefore, the vote to overturn Roe is 6-3 against-at best! In other words, we are not even close to reversing Roe v Wade. Not even close! However, none of this matters to most conservative Christians. After all, they can beat their chests, hobnob with Republican big- shots, raise millions of dollars from gullible Christians, and pretend to be "pro-life" every two years from now until the cows come home without worrying about anything of substance actually being done. What a racket! Yet, the situation is actually worse than that. Worse than most Christians' gullibility regarding the abortion issue is the manner in which they give Republicans a pass on other issues of immense importance. It seems that all a Republican has to do to gain the confidence and support of the vast majority of conservative Christians is say he is "pro-life" and opposed to homosexual marriage. His or her position on virtually everything else doesn't seem to matter. It doesn't seem to matter to most conservative Christians that President Bush has increased deficit spending beyond that of all previous administrations put together. Yes, you read it right: President Bush (with the aid of his fellow Republicans in Congress) is a bigger debtor than all 42 of his predecessors combined! According to the McAlvany Intelligence Advisor, Dec. 2005, "According to the Treasury Department, from 1776-2000, the first 224 years of U.S. history, 42 U.S. presidents borrowed a combined $1.01 trillion from foreign governments and financial institutions, but in the past four years alone, the Bush administration borrowed $1.05 trillion." But that doesn't matter to a hill of beans to most conservative Christians. Bush is "pro-life." It doesn't matter to the vast majority of conservative Christians that President Bush is attempting to accrue power to the executive branch at the expense of constitutional government, that he is championing extremely questionable, if not downright dangerous, legislation that could result in the dismantlement of civil and individual liberties. It doesn't matter that Bush is involved in the most intense nation-building scheme in post World War II history. It doesn't matter that he has done more to open the door of illegal immigration than any president in modern memory. It doesn't matter that he spearheaded (and continues to laud) the most expensive and most intrusive expansion of the federal government's role in public education in U.S. history. It doesn't matter that Bush continues to promote ill-conceived trade deals such as CAFTA and FTAA which weaken American independence and sacrifice thousands of American jobs. Because President Bush claims to be "pro-life," conservative Christians give him a pass on virtually any and all other conduct. Therefore, even if (a big if) Judge Alito would join Justices Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas as being willing to overturn Roe, the votes are still not there to actually do so. Furthermore, President Bush could get at least one, and maybe two, additional Supreme Court appointments. Two of the Court's current justices are aged and in ill health. In other words, by the time Bush leaves office, he could get as many as four appointments to the High Court. However, instead of overturning Roe v Wade, it is much more likely that the Supreme Court will further advance the imperialistic philosophy of the Bush administration resulting in an ongoing and rapid demise of individual liberties for American citizens. In other words, legalized abortion will still be intact but constitutional liberties won't be, Bush's appointments to the High Court notwithstanding. And, unfortunately, when it happens, conservative Christians still won't get it. © 2006 Chuck Baldwin - All Rights Reserved. [TOP OF PAGE] WHERE IS THE RELIGIOUS RIGHT HIDING THESE DAYS? By Pastor Chuck Baldwin March 21, 2006 Ever since emerging from their four year hibernation in 2004 (just in time to reelect President George W. Bush), the Religious Right has returned to its extended state of unconsciousness. Oh, that's right, they did roll out of bed long enough to lobby for Supreme Court Justices Roberts and Alito. (No doubt, they were given a wake up call by the White House along with an invitation to dinner.) When it comes to numerous volatile issues, however, the Religious Right is once again proving its utter worthlessness! Of course, the main reason the Religious Right is snoozing through the Bush administration is because the president is the point man for a variety of dangerous and unconstitutional policies. And the one thing the Religious Right will never do is criticize G. W. Bush. For example, America's illegal immigration problem is a time bomb with a lit fuse! And the fuse is getting short! Did you know that of the more than 12 million (This is a very conservative estimate. The actual number is well over 20 million.) illegal aliens that currently reside in this country, almost half of them arrived here since G.W. Bush became president in 2000? The reported figure is 40%. (Source: The Washington Times) Does anyone think that the dramatic increase of illegal aliens to America during the Bush administration is a coincidence? Only an imbecile could believe that! The reason that there are nearly 50% more illegal aliens in America (most of them crossing our southern border since Bush became president) is directly because of the policies and speeches President Bush has made that have created a climate extremely favorable to illegal aliens. Most of the millions of illegal aliens that have poured across our southern border during the last 5 years have done so with the expectation (clearly created by Bush) of receiving legal amnesty in this country. How can any rational person take Bush seriously about his "war on terrorism," when he treats the problem of illegal immigration with such a cavalier attitude? Beyond that, how can they accept his continued encroachments upon the liberties of the American citizenry with such indifference? Do they not realize that President Bush is punishing law-abiding Americans while opening the door of potential terrorism even wider? Have the American people (and especially the Religious Right) lost their minds? Another example of how the Religious Right is sleeping through the Bush administration is their reaction (or lack of reaction) to the news that President Bush has placed our troops in Afghanistan under foreign commanders. (Source: AP newswire) When President Bill Clinton did this, the Religious Right screamed and hollered their indignation. When President Bush does it, they barely raise an eyebrow. What hypocrisy! Do you need more examples? Consider the fact that President Bush has increased major government social programs to greater levels than any president since Lyndon B. Johnson! (Source: USA Today) Does the Religious Right realize that Bush has pushed domestic spending to amounts accounting for more than half of all federal spending? Of course, they know; they just don't care! The next time I hear someone say, "It would be worse if John Kerry had been elected," I think I will scream! No, it would not be worse! With Republicans in charge of the entire federal government, spending has skyrocketed to levels that Democrats could not even dream about. Do you really believe the Religious Right would sit silently by while a Democratic president tried to explode federal spending the way Bush has done? Do you really believe they would sit back sheepishly while a Democratic president placed American troops under foreign commanders? Do you really believe, that during a time of terrorist activity, the Religious Right would drift off into unconsciousness while a Democratic administration facilitated the biggest growth of illegal immigration ever seen in this country? You know the answer. However, because President Bush is a Republican and claims to be a Christian, the Religious Right is willing to give him a pass. They should be ashamed of themselves! Christians, especially preachers, should be watchmen. They should quit trying to be politicians. Instead, they should "lift up their voices like a trumpet" and call America back to its senses! Sadly, however, foolish loyalty to partisan politics, the desire to ingratiate themselves before the powers that be, and the love of invitations to sit at the king's table have made the Religious Right impotent, and even worse, complicit to America's demise. As important as it is, there is more to a presidential administration than anti-abortion rhetoric! At the end of Bush's second term (and it can't come too soon), abortion will still be lawful, but the havoc wreaked upon the U.S. Constitution and personal liberties will haunt us for decades! Think about the potential bloodshed and tumult associated with Bush's Draconian foreign policy. Consider the economic catastrophe resulting from Bush's penchant for spending federal dollars like a drunken sailor. Meditate for a moment on the gargantuan problems created by Bush's endorsement of massive illegal immigration. Frightening contemplations, indeed! To repeat a statement I made in an earlier column, America's greatest problem is a preacher problem! For the most part, the Religious Right has spent the last 5 years in hiding. I suppose we can expect the next "great awakening" during the 2008 presidential election season, when the prospect of a Democratic victory brings the Religious Right back from the dead. If all the Religious Right can do is campaign for Republican presidential candidates with no regard as to how elected Republican presidents govern, it cannot honestly be regarded as either "Religious" or "Right." Therefore, it might actually be better if the Religious Right stayed in hiding! © 2006 Chuck Baldwin - All Rights Reserved. [TOP OF PAGE] TO THE RELIGIOUS RIGHT: GET TOUGH WITH G.W. BUSH OR APOLOGIZE TO BILL CLINTON. By Pastor Chuck Baldwin May 18, 2006 George W. Bush was elected President of the United States largely on the strength of the image that he is a practicing Christian, a man of integrity and honesty, and a man who can be trusted. In fact, Bush has repeatedly used the "trust me" mantra throughout his presidency. And for the most part, evangelical Christians have done just that. However, it is now time to face reality: George W. Bush is as big a liar as was his predecessor, Bill Clinton! His word means absolutely nothing! First, virtually every reason Mr. Bush gave the American people for our preemptive invasion of Iraq has been shown to be false. Iraq had no Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMDs) capable of threatening the United States, and the link between Saddam Hussein and the 9/11 hijackers was also proven to be nothing more than a figment of Bush's imagination. However, it is the repeated lies and falsehoods of Bush's domestic policies that reveal a habitual, pathological penchant for duplicity. For example, back in 2004, President Bush assured the American people that no government snooping took place without first obtaining lawful warrants. That turned out to be as phony as a three dollar bill. Next, President Bush assured us that only international calls involving suspected al-Qaeda terrorists were being tapped. And even then, Bush was adamant that legal warrants were obtained before such wiretaps were put in place. That has since been proven to be a big, fat lie! Then President Bush promised us that even though some Americans' phone calls might be targeted, they only involved international calls. Once again, we now know this was another fib. Again, President Bush resorted to lies and deception by assuring the American people that no domestic calls or communications were being targeted by the federal government. NOT! We now know that every American citizen has had virtually every one of his or her phone calls "mined" by the National Security Agency (NSA). Now, President Bush is promising us that even though the federal government is indeed compiling a database of every phone call made in the United States, it isn't actually listening to the calls or identifying the names of the callers. Yet, even as President Bush makes these false assurances, we learn that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has secretly sought phone records and other documents of more than 3,500 Americans, including many journalists. And these records were obtained without warrants under a provision of the Patriot Act. So, now journalists are considered terrorists? Who is next? School teachers? Engineers? Physicians? Ministers? Certainly, lawyers must be included (except those who are in Congress, of course). How many times do we need to be lied to before we figure out that we cannot believe anything President Bush or his spokesmen tell us? Then there is the illegal immigration issue. President Bush repeatedly states that his "guest worker" program is not amnesty. Get real! Even Jessica Simpson knows that's a bunch of horse manure! If it's not amnesty, why are so many millions of Mexicans breaking the sound barrier trying to get here? And why is it that nearly 50% of all illegal Mexicans who currently reside in this country came here since Bush was elected president? There is only one reason: they want amnesty, and they believe Bush (and his fellow travelers in Congress) are going to give it to them! No wonder Bush's approval rating is currently at 29%. Every time he opens his mouth, he tells another lie! It is time for G.W. Bush's hard-core base, the Religious Right, to publicly and vociferously call the president to task for his perpetual dishonesty, deceit, and duplicity! If they are unwilling to do this, they should apologize to Bill Clinton! © 2006 Chuck Baldwin - All Rights Reserved. [TOP OF PAGE] CAN A CHRISTIAN PRAY TO ALLAH? By Pastor Chuck Baldwin October 9, 2007 George W. Bush was twice elected President of the United States with great assistance from evangelical Christians, who, almost universally, believed he was a born-again believer. Many still hold onto that belief. In fact, evangelical Christians compose the bulk of the ever-shrinking base of support Bush has left. This is due almost exclusively to this belief that Bush is a born-again Christian. As a minister of the Gospel for more than three decades, I have witnessed professing Christians do and say just about anything one would associate with unbelief. In fact, nowadays the line dividing believers and unbelievers seems practically nonexistent. I've known unbelievers who are far kinder and more compassionate than many professing believers. In fact, professing Christians are sometimes even meaner and more cantankerous than unbelievers. (Don't get me wrong: I've known many unbelievers who were as mean as rattlesnakes, too.) Another paradox to me is how so many professing believers (including pastors) seem to lack the spiritual discernment to understand even the simplest principles. This is especially true regarding the principles of freedom and national independence. One would assume that knowledge of the Scriptures, along with the aid of the Holy Spirit, would cause believers to be on the front lines in the defense of these principles. However, many times, unbelievers are the ones fighting for liberty, while believers sit piously and passively on the sidelines. What a shame! However, that believers can continue to propound the "Christianity" of George W. Bush takes the cake. One has to hand it to Karl Rove: he thoroughly and masterfully fooled the Religious Right. And he did it with only a little assistance from Bush. A few public catch phrases; some prayer breakfasts; a few references to Jesus; some personal meetings; and a few phone calls or personal meetings with big-name evangelicals was all it took to beguile the vast majority of professing believers. Because of this, George W. Bush is now and forever known as "our beloved Christian President." Then again, how would our Christian brethren react if someone came into their church and said that "all religions pray to the same God"? I dare say such a statement would be met with the most vehement rejection. Yet, that is exactly what President Bush has said repeatedly. The latest example was just last Friday, October 5, 2007. In an interview with Al Arabiya reporter Elie Nakouzi, Bush said, "I believe that all the world, whether they be Muslim, Christian, or any other religion, pray to the same God." Bush has made this same statement throughout his Presidency. The statement obviously reflects a deep-seated belief. [Read] Of course, George W. Bush is the first President in U.S. history to celebrate Ramadan in the White House. He is also the first President to worship and pray in a Shinto temple. Last Friday, World Net Daily quoted Bush as saying, "We are having an Iftaar dinner tonight--I say, 'we'-- it's my wife and I." Bush also said, "This is the seventh one in the seven years I've been the president. It gives me a chance to say 'Ramadan Mubarak.'" Bush is also quoted as saying, "I want American citizens to see me hosting an Iftaar dinner." The Iftaar dinner refers to the evening meal for breaking the daily fast during the Islamic month of Ramadan. "Mubarak" means "blessed." So, when Bush says "Ramadan Mubarak" he is saying that Ramadan is blessed (by God), or "blessed Ramadan." [See Section on Islam] I would very much like to see President Bush ask one of his Muslim or Shintoist friends to pray in Jesus' name, or ask them to take Christian communion, or publicly worship the Lord Jesus Christ. You know as well as I do that no Muslim would deny Allah by worshipping Jesus Christ. Yet, our supposed "Christian" President has no qualms about denying Christ in order to worship Allah or pray to Shinto gods. Anyone with even a casual knowledge of Islam knows that when Muhammad founded the Muslim religion there were about 300 pagan gods being worshipped in the region. He selected the moon god, Allah, and proclaimed it to be the one true God. This is, of course, the origin of the crescent moon symbol of Islam. Therefore, when President Bush says Muslims and Christians worship the same god, he is saying the Lord Jesus Christ is not superior to the pagan moon god, Allah. Or to turn it around, Bush is saying the pagan moon god, Allah, is equal to the Lord Jesus Christ. And it would appear that Bush would have the same belief regarding the Shinto gods, or any other pagan god, for that matter. So, here is the sixty-four million dollar question: can a Christian pray to Allah or to any other false god? Can a Christian worship any other god? Can a Christian recognize a pagan god to be equal to the Lord Jesus Christ? Every true Christian knows that the Lord Jesus Christ is the only way to God the Father. Jesus is not "a" way of salvation. He is the only way of salvation, and His is the only name whereby we are saved. No man comes unto the Father except through Christ (John 14:6; Acts 4:12). This is Christianity 101. We have pre-kindergarten children in our Sunday School that apparently understand more about Bible truth than our supposed "Christian" President. [Also See Jesus The Only Way? How Can Christians Make Such ‘Offensive’ and Exclusive Claims? READ] However, the Scriptures are even more explicit. For example, 1 John 2:22,23 states unequivocally, "Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son. Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father." Could the Apostle John be any plainer? Any person denying the Son denies the Father, and any person who has not the Son has not the Father. Plus, anyone who denies that Jesus is the Christ (Messiah, Savior) is an antichrist. The Apostle Paul stated in Philippians 2:10,11 "That at the name of Jesus [not Allah] every knee should bow [including the knee of Muhammad], of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess [including the tongues of Muslims, Shintoists, Buddhists, and atheists] that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." ask again, can a true Christian pray to Allah or worship Allah (or any other false god)? Would any real Christian not cringe at the thought that he or she might actually equate the Lord Jesus Christ, the virgin-born Savior of the world, with a false, pagan god or dare to reduce the sinless, resurrected Christ to the ranks of pagan idols? Perish the thought! So, what does this tell us of George W. Bush? How can he deny his Lord for the sake of political correctness? Furthermore, what does this tell us about the hundreds and thousands of Christians and pastors across America who continue to defend and laud this apostate? It is one thing for evangelicals to support President Bush for political reasons. But for evangelicals to support President Bush for his "Christianity" is the height of absurdity. The man has proven he has absolutely no understanding of genuine Christianity, and for evangelicals to continue to support him on that basis only serves to display their own ignorance or compromise--or both. © 2007 Chuck Baldwin - All Rights Reserved [TOP OF PAGE] PLAYING THE GOD-CARD By Pastor Chuck Baldwin June 1, 2006 It never ceases to amaze me how politicians play the God-card every election cycle. "Vote for me, I teach a Sunday School class." "Vote for me, I am a member of such-and-such church." "Vote for me, I am a conservative Christian." Ad infinitum. Ad nauseam. Unfortunately, these tactics work! Why else would intelligent people pay thousands and even millions of dollars to promote these kinds of ads? That Christians have become stupendously gullible is the understatement of the year! Just about all a politician has to do is say, "I'm a conservative. I'm pro-life and pro-family," and Christians sing his or her praises all the way to the voting booth. That is, if he or she is a Republican. You see, in the eyes of many Christians, the Republican Party is "God's Party." In fact, many Christians have come to regard partisan (translated "Republican") politics as much more than a political exercise. It is sacred, even holy to support the Republican Party, and in recent history, to support President G.W. Bush in particular. I could not count the numbers of emails I have received that have ascribed my future soul as suffering the torments of the damned because I have dared to challenge the policies and political decisions of President Bush. My commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Scriptures means nothing! I am the devil's disciple because I believe President Bush to be in serious neglect of constitutional governance. (Can anyone say, "Heil, Bush"?) However, does not the President of the United States put his hand on an open Bible and take an oath before God and the American people to "preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States"? (U.S. Constitution, Article. II. Section. 1. Paragraph. 8.) Of course, he does. To "preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States" is the sworn duty of any president! Being a Christian does not give the President a right to violate his oath to the Constitution. In fact, if he took his Christianity seriously, it would only cause him to adhere more punctiliously to the Constitution, because his Savior commands that one keep his word! Yet, deceit, duplicity, fabrication, and constitutional indifference is the modus operandi of Republican and Democratic administrations alike, including the present one! Furthermore, for the most part, it is a complete waste of time to replace a Republican with a Democrat and vice versa! No matter which party is in power, nothing changes! Taxes continue to strangle the life out of the American people. American jobs continue to be outsourced overseas. The American military continue to be used as pawns for international bankers and oil companies. Millions of illegal aliens continue to invade our country with impunity. Encroachments continue upon private property rights. Government schools continue to indoctrinate our children in secular humanism. Unborn babies continue to die. Americans not only need a choice; we need a change. I mean a complete overhaul! The first thing we can do is throw out every incumbent in Congress, with the exception of Ron Paul, Tom Tancredo, and a few others. The next thing we can do is demand that whoever we vote for is a constitutionalist. Which party they represent and which church they attend matters little. What matters is that they take their oath to the Constitution seriously. It would be much better to have an unbeliever who obeys the Constitution in office than a believer who doesn't! The thing that insures our liberty, including our religious liberty, is the willingness of a Chief Executive, members of Congress and the Judiciary to "preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States." Without constitutional government, our country will be quickly reduced to a gargantuan police state, which is exactly what America is becoming! Christians need to wise up! Instead of succumbing to trite, meaningless clichés and marketing propaganda by the "God-card" professionals, we need to demand fidelity to constitutional government as the chief requirement for public service. This should be done even if that means voting for someone outside our religious persuasion or from another political party! Try it this November. The results cannot be worse than what we have already! © 2006 Chuck Baldwin - All Rights Reserved Chuck Baldwin is Founder-Pastor of Crossroads Baptist Church in Pensacola, Florida.
