See Section The Pattern Of The New Testament Church Christ’s church, consists entirely of a priesthood of believers who have been “baptized into Christ” . There never was and should not be any clergy-laity distinction. Additionally it is fact of history that the early church met in the homes of its members. No special church buildings were constructed during the New Testament era, nor or for the following two hundred years. The New Testament knows nothing of an inert, believer-priesthood whose only function is to passively absorb sermons and pass the offering plate. 1. Existential Hermeneutics - I am amazed at how much (according to most present day pastors) when God was talking to Jeremiah, Abraham, and Paul he was really talking to me…personally….. 2. Worship Pastors - Seriously? Paid singers? Seriously? 3. Worship Teams - Why is it that when the pastor or an elder is leading the congregation in the sacred act of corporate prayer that the “worship” team moves around on the stage to get into place to lead “worship?” Is not prayer more worship than singing the same chorus about being a friend of God over and over again? 4. Tithing - Seriously, I did not realize I was still bound by the Law. Could I get a N.T. proof text for this? Yeah….that’s what I thought. [See Tithing] 5. Applause - Why should I clap for someone who is supposedly “praising” the Lord? 6. Programs - Providing a number of avenues by which people can become “connected” is great but do we seriously need church based cooking classes? What happened to teaching inductive Bible study methods? Maybe if we had more of that and less of church aerobics, more than 1/3 of the church would know whether or not Satan is a real being. 7. Multiple Bible Translations - What genius had the grand idea that in every single sermon we should use ten different Bible translations? Oh yeah, the same guy who killed the expository sermon. Maybe if people could actually follow along with the pastor on Sunday morning through one translation people would get into the habit of opening their Bible. Instead, people do not even bring Bibles to church. If they do not even bring it to church do you really think they will read it alone? 8. Politically Correct Topics - When did pastors decide that sermons should be shaped by the culture instead of Biblical themes changing culture? Maybe if we preached a little more hellfire and brimstone (while not forgetting love) we would not have 51% of Christian marriages falling apart. [See Pastors] 9. Worship Music - I am all for modern music being incorporated into worship. However, why do 90% of the modern praise songs focus on me? Why is God always trying to give me everything I want? Why is God’s main goal for me to have high self-esteem? [See Worship] 10. Tradition - We should seriously have a better reason for everything we do beyond “this is how we’ve always done it!” About The Author. K.D. Hartman II is owner of thejude3project He has a B.S.
